Lure of Nightfall

Lure of Nightfall

A Poem by Chris Shaw

behold the lure of twilight
the rise and fall of waves
all of this is short lived
as night paves way for day

moonlight floods salt water
embraces moody sea
with flecks of silvered sequins
shimmering back at me

standing atop a cliff edge
with a view across this bay
all of this is fleeting
as night paves way for day

Hi Chris. This reminds me of something that I would try write when I was younger and full of love for the natural world, but I could never feel like I "pulled it off" so to speak. You do. This poem of experience just fills you up effortlessly. What I think I'm trying to say is that in reading each line, I felt I could have a nice glass of whiskey and stare off that cliff practically forever. HA, funny things is we know a bottle don't last that long. I really like this one.

I cannot rhyme effectively to save my life.
Good thing I don't have to because I want to live! Lol
You, on the other hand, can rhyme!
I'm usually not a fan of rhyming poetry but this one is a true gem.

Beautiful poem, it reminds me back in Texas we have a dike and on the levy you can look out at the water. I miss my town sometimes.

All nicely done and the positive aspect of it is, there is another night following for those that don't sleep, to take more than one pleasant peek

I’m so impressed with how effortlessly written this seems - I don’t know if it was or not but I greatly admire it nonetheless. I love the ocean and you transported me there. That’s a true gift - to make us feel what you wrote vs we feel like we’re just reading about it. Beautiful. You’re so talented. I’m supposed to come up with constructive criticism but I wouldn’t change a thing!

The beauty of the night is so enchanting. Its only short-lived, paving the way for day. I think we can say the same for daytime too, the day is short-lived, paving the way for the night. If people sleep during the daytime, they would not experience the enchantment of the day but witness the mystery of the night. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading your poem, it was nicely penned too!
