A Poem by Chris Shaw

soon
.
my gypsy soul
will wander aimlessly
in unpolluted night sky
rinsed with moonlight
.
in a sea of spangled stars
an allure of sequins
will beckon me far away
from river bank moorings
.
grown wild with willow herb
as gentle rippled water
lap lap laps or a tap tap tap
of beaks on bold blue steel
.
supper for swans
don't forget the bread before bed
until then my head will tilt
towards the heavens
.
eyes challenged by distance
switched on like spotlights
searching ...
searching for you

dearest Chris... this is my favorite of yours... now that time has given me pause... I realize that the Sea has secrets to share with the Stars. Your poem is perfect for Memorial Day weekend here in the States as Flags are about to Pray for the World and a peaceful blending of celestial thoughts. Wishing you the dreams of Sky Rockets bursting in Air... our Flag is still there. gently, Pat

I like this a lot Chris - it has a happy lively light musicality touched by starlight - also very visual and painterly - definitely a keeper. Excellent.

I find this very Pre Raphealite in concept and excecution and for that reason I like it. May be way off base here however.

Chris,

This poem in places (especially toward the middle and into the ending) remind me so much of Ginsberg - it is wonderfully musical with great diction and use of repetition.

If you have never read it, Google Sunflower Sutra by Alan Ginsberg and read it to get an idea of what I mean - there is this barrage of interconnected ideas all coming at you seemingly at the same time yet all making sense as a whole.
Your did the same.

Another interesting read that made me glad I stopped by to read it.

ah, memories. We search between the clouds to see our loved ones who are no longer with us. Such a "homey" feel. Feeding the swans, watching the sky....and remembering. The onomatopoeia is great and the whole poem touched me. Lydi**
