Holes In Thinking

Holes In Thinking

A Poem by Chris Shaw

my pen plays idle
as brain cells collide and side
in sympathy with mother's
sliding mind state
her fate unbalanced

muddled thoughts
absent logic caught
in cobwebs of stickiness
struggling to escape

unable to string more than
a few pearl words together
holes in thinking
vocabulary sinking

thirst for poetry missing
appetite all but dead
morning musicality gone
lost in a fog of nothingness

yet as dawn broke through today
something else broke through too
i heard a blackbird's sweetest notes
and found my own song too

Been reading a few of your poems, connected with this one pretty quick due to how I'm feeling lately. On top of that I love the structure of this, and how the each stanza feels filling while only being a handful of words. The ending left me feeling hopeful. nice work

It's painful even more to review this poem now.A person, very near to heart, a lovely mind who took great care can not do simplest thing on her own, yet nothing can be done except watching this silent decay as a mute spectator! A mother always a mother and she will remain forever seated into a daughters heart.I pray you find strength to bear this pain...♥️

Yayy woww that blackbird unblocked your temporary writers block and the words flowed so superbly as your metaphoric muse shows in a fine way. Kudos!!

(muddled thoughts absent logic caught in cobwebs of stickiness struggling to escape) I remember my Mother in these words. But gratefully she is now in a place where there IS no sickness of any kind and one day I will again see her whole! ~Sharon

Dementia is such a disheartening state, and you have captured its distortions well. I might omit l2 in last stanza as it's redundant and diminishes your 'song.'

Thank you so much for leaving a nice comment. Have a lovely day.
These are somethings I know something about. I don't know if I could write so evocatively and exceptionally about the experieneces however. A remarkable piece from a remarkable writer.
This is wistful sad and above all experienced. A true artist viewing what happens and allowing it to flow into creativity. I found this cathartic personally. I hope you don't mind. And again my deepest sympathies.

Not easy when life takes ones down such an emotional journey for a while, it does indeed shift our perspective and create a void of sorts where words seem lacklustre in such times of inbalance, I hope the blackbird visits you often with lighthearted melody dear Chris, stay well :)

This is so heartbreaking and beautiful and I feel this deeply and understand it completely. The world comes back to us in it’s time when grieving and when it does it is the small things that become so much bigger than remember like a song from a bird or the scent of a season and becomes so much more important. We are still here and we have to go on and with a better understanding of the small things in life. You are such a wonderful writer and expressed this so well.

Holes in my thinking are blackholes that effect our way of rational thought. Frustrating it is, just got to find the exit and walk out. My poetry has been pretty ordinary for months the vibes are not there. Nice work Chris.
