Eye of the Sun

Eye of the Sun

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(For Stuart Beattie Cullen, first anniversary, my brother-in-law)

"
as morning yawned
pale sun stretched out
sleep clung to fine cloud lashes
rock pond was dark
its surface still
no sign of welcome splashes

a perky robin came in sight
a visit unexpected
to quench his thirst
that little bird
thought he was undetected

you filtered through
a year has passed
like mist your soul has risen
while my sad sister's sorrowed eyes
have gained a lake like glisten

i'm sure your spirit sees it too
though waves of grief will soften
the love that binds the pair of you
is shatterproof and diamond bright
you're gone but ne'er forgotten

an almost blindingly beautiful tribute & dedication combined and all encapsulated within a single poem .. I imagine Stuart Beattie Cullen was a fine man and will long be sorely missed .. I do by the way believe that visits from robins have a certain significance and can often sense the presence of loved ones whenever they appear ......................... Neville

Hi Chris,
The sadness and finite status shine through. I wonder how it might look if each stanza was shorter than the previous one. Just a thought. Cheers, Mike

dearest Chris... some of our loved ones are Rich in Memories.
Roger's sister, Priscilla, passed last year. Since she had "Time" to finish two oil paintings that she sent to us... she was pleased she had finished three-- one of Spring and another of Autumn. The third was Winter with Red Roses growing around the Pond . We still need an oil painting of Summer. Pris may inspire me to do an Oil painting of Summer. There is alway a way of Celebrating our Loved Ones who pass the Pearly Gates. tenderly, Pat

What a sweet and gentle tribute, I was out very early this morning getting a cup of coffee at the corner store. I pulled back in my driveway and sat there sipping my coffee as I watched eight or ten robins march the lawn, tilting their heads and snatching up worms or bugs. What delicate sadness you weave here. The feeling of loss is palpable. Bless.

Your images of the morning are wonderful!! Soft and vivid and soothing; that said, your sweet memories return to your soul and you see them in your mind's eye as well. grief comes and goes, but but we do have calm moments such as these to reflect. It doesn't matter how long, when the moment comes we put on a smile.
Best, B

Letting it all come back, slow but the beauty is coming back…in the world and in the memories, so beautifully expressed with so much endearing love, so strongly felt in such a delicate way

To be remembered with such beauty and love. Surely the sadness of loss is diminished with the remembrance of such wonderful memories. A beautiful tribute - Chris.

Blessing back in abundance to our elegant Lady ✨
This is a lovely poem, so warm, sad, and true. --- And it is the way we live, here and gone tomorrow. But the sorrow only lasts for as long as the memories. Better, the good ones thought of.
