Tattered, Torn and Somewhat Worn

Tattered, Torn and Somewhat Worn

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Inspired by my dear friend Jabob's Avatar - written some months ago

"
would your thesaurus tattered
well thumbed and torn
consider a companion
who's equally worn
battered and bruised
with the passing of time
despondent with life
in a state of decline

do you think that their shelf life
could benefit from
a friendship of sorts
as we both work our pens
do you think they would chatter
and natter like we
about the world's state
and our own poetry

would they adorn themselves freely
with garlands of flowers
drink to the rain
of past summer showers
reflect on the sixties
the years we loved best
before those old pages
eventually find rest

Wonderfully nostalgic, Chris :) ...I'm a big fan of Nostalgia.
I miss my old tattered thesaurus, now replaced with a finger-click; he's around here somewhere, buried in a cardboard box, maybe wondering how ole tattered me is doin'.
Ever seen Woody Allen's 'Midnight in Paris'? ...If not, I guarantee you'll love it. I watch it about every 6 months. ( ... Golden-Age thinking :)

and after all these years, those synonyms still shout strongly from that old green thing.
Yes, the World's state of our own poetry...
nothing like words, nothing like variety of words...the old Thesaurus loves that....
I love this poem and that old green thing...it has sustained me for more years than I can remember.
with its duct-taped binding.

Incredibly moving words Chris and in many ways represents much of this community of amazing writers. Who share more than a love of art but also kindness, empathy, and friendship. Much like yourself who is always kind and encouraging to not just the many veteran writers here but also the new as well. You truly are a kind and gentle soul, as well as a poet to be admired.

Well, this does seem to fit Sunday reading somewhat, but maybe that's just the bleary eyed and blearier dulled guy I saw in the mirror this morning 😊
Being well worn is indeed a sign of love and affection, so why do we never prefix it to ourselves? We even call second hand books pre loved, so why not us too, or even three!!!
I must admit to being shocked at the avatar you talk of. Jacob uses a thesaurus??? I always thought he was some sort of oracle that just knew this poetry stuff the same way veins know blood. 😊
