Tattered, Torn and Somewhat Worn

Tattered, Torn and Somewhat Worn

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Inspired by my dear friend Jabob's Avatar - written some months ago

"
would your thesaurus tattered
well thumbed and torn
consider a companion
who's equally worn
battered and bruised
with the passing of time
despondent with life
in a state of decline

do you think that their shelf life
could benefit from
a friendship of sorts
as we both work our pens
do you think they would chatter
and natter like we
about the world's state
and our own poetry

would they adorn themselves freely
with garlands of flowers
drink to the rain
of past summer showers
reflect on the sixties
the years we loved best
before those old pages
eventually find rest

Wonderfully nostalgic, Chris :) ...I'm a big fan of Nostalgia.
I miss my old tattered thesaurus, now replaced with a finger-click; he's around here somewhere, buried in a cardboard box, maybe wondering how ole tattered me is doin'.
Ever seen Woody Allen's 'Midnight in Paris'? ...If not, I guarantee you'll love it. I watch it about every 6 months. ( ... Golden-Age thinking :)

Such a lovely poem Chris , gladly my thesaurus is still by my side , i think in this poem thesaurus is like our minds , with such vast thoughts , some in the corner of the attic withering as their shelf life deteriorates while some so fresh ... I still have words highlighted in my thesaurus ...i'm sure i'll be feeling nostalgic in about 10-20 yrs , looking into it once again ..I really like this one Chris

Sounds as though the thesauruses are really metaphors for us. As for the current state of the world, I don't think any thesaurus contains enough profanities and obscenities to adequately describe it.

Love this Chris old books have minds memories of the ones that turned their pages
They may be inert still lifeless objects but makes one wonder if they feel us

What a delightful perusal on the companionship of word lovers. It reminds me of how, when I went to college, I was given a dictionary and a thesaurus. I kept both for years, and used them often. Now, I have both at my fingertips with just a few clicks or taps thanks to the internet, but I sometimes miss thumbing the pages. Thank you for a trip back to a much loved pair of companions that served me well!

A thesaurus is a real friend and rescued us so many times! Your poem on this is a delight to read!!
P.s. there's something about sixties I can perceive ...we don't adore our decade so much...may be on later date:)

I loved the poem dear Chris. I wanted to know and read more. You danced on many topic and you left the reader with many things to ponder. I like old things. The old thoughts, the old books allow us to know. We had lived some. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
