A Text Too Many

A Text Too Many

A Poem by Chris Shaw

out of the blue
from the forests of time
a message was left
it would be good to talk
.
concisely short
a bullseye dart
pointed and poisoned
it grazed on my heart
.
nostalgia it carried
on a cool autumn breeze
i remembered how once
i was brought to my knees
.
so what do you want
from your fine Surrey garden
maybe the chablis is
seeking my pardon
.
on a warm afternoon
i could easily be swayed
except i recalled
i was dumped and betrayed
.
so i chose to ignore you
and didn't reply
yet not without wiping
a tear from each eye
.

this is unusually good but not at all unusual .. and I don't mean that you just wrote a bloomin good bit o poetry .. its good to talk and from both a personal and professional perspective, I am acutely aware that so many problems start from the moment a silence is first conceived ..................... You are so right Carola. Thank you.

I think that pretty much says it all. They only want something when they do that, be it woman or man. The motive rader should go up in that kind of situation for anyone who is wise.

Nice one, Chris.

And this is why I don't keep my old number when I change phones. :) --- Seriously, this was a good solid poem with lots of past memories peeking out as it went skillfully along to its meaning. Well done.

A stunning poem on a past love and its betrayal. A returning love is never a harbinger of good things. Dumped and betrayed sounds so cruel and crushing and yet to them it all appears to be so casual and fine. The concise dart was meant to mislead again and I'm glad the poet let it fall by the wayside. Beautifully written, dear Chris.
