Aspects Of Light

Aspects Of Light

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Spontaneous poetry

"
let there always
always be
this glare from sunlight
on the sea
that lifts all spirits
in distress
that calms and soothes
all restlessness
to sprinkle sparkle
where the mood
of brooding clouds
have done their best
to hamper thoughts
of happiness
to sink the soul
beneath the waves
into the ocean's
darkest caves

We experience sunshine and showers in our lives, including a few storms - both literally and metaphorically! The sun usually shines after a storm, even if not straight away. Looking on the bright side can keep us going! The spontaneity is evident in this poem, I think, Chris. Strange how sometimes we can labour over a poem for days or even weeks (at least, that is often my experience), and yet some poems can be dashed off in 10 minutes or so, with little if any re-writing to be done! A fine write!

I tipped over my little tub of Brazile nuts just as I was starting to type this. I think I got them all up, but I know that one day, while ruffling papers or shredding old grocery store receipts, I will find a nut (or two) still resting where I dropped them on a Saturday morning in July of 2024. And without hesitation, I will place it's saltiness in my mouth and although stale and humid-soft, chew and swallow it. And while chewing it recall this poem of calmness and burning devotion. I read somewhere that Brazile nuts are full of nutrients, selenium (whatever that is) and omega 3's. I would say that a good, uplifting poem can have the same effects on an aging body. Well done, dana.

Tremendous imagery. You use symbolism and metaphor very well here. You make this scene breathe.

Nice thoughts. We often find clouds brooding, yet sometimes quite attractive. Your piece does, though, tell us that the sunlight from water can overcome any misery that clouds might seek to bring to us. Thanks, Chris.

Let not allow the waves to curse our emotions into watery caves for too long. While sadness and other such emotions have a time and a purpose they should not drown out the joy and happiness for too long.

Loves the image of the sunlight sparkling on the ocean. The ocean is a beautiful sight to behold especially when the light makes its sparkle a beautiful blue.

I live in a Texas desert... I miss lush forests, babbling brooks, but especially the sea... delightfully captured!
