A Losing Game

A Losing Game

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(A tribute on the 10th anniversary of her death, Amy Winehouse)

"
           somehow
.
it seems a tad distasteful
that raised wine glasses
       clink for amy
.
especially when her crusade
against alcohol addiction
    became a lost cause
.
ten years gone while our
bluebird of happiness swings
    in its usual place
.
            suspended
from a central wooden beam
    over our summer deck
.
     in silent appreciation
as back to black plays its dark
              lament
.
     as lantern light flickers
honeysuckle vines shoot strands
        from beehive chaos
.
saluting the mistress of song's
        creative vowels
       in scented respect

Im not sure if I already reviewed this but don’t think I did. Amy was a rare talent that I adore! Many of her songs are in my playlist. Such a shame and broke my heart that she outwardly portrayed herself as ok with her choices when I am sure she wasn’t. It seems talents like this muse from the pain and recreate it over and over. A vicious cycle of addiction. This is an amazing write, a tribute actually to that sad beautiful talent

One of my favorite artists ever with such talent and legacy. We will never lose sight of the icon that was Amy Winehouse..... she was a gift to the world but the world's painful nature beat her down. Thank you for this beautiful poem...

I knew her guitar player Tom. He started playing with her after I last saw him. She was so talented and yet alcohol and drugs destroyed her early in life. Too many have died the same way.

Your words are moving as always, Chris.

I believe some people can see too much. Amy Winehouse was so talented. I could see her reckless soul when she sang. I believe when you see too much, feel too much. Your vision become mess-up. So many young musicians died so young. I love her music still. She was a free-spirit in a world. Where the free night-bird cannot find the night. Thank you dear Chris for sharing your words and thoughts for dear Amy.

Yes she did dear Chris and you are welcome my friend.
I wasn't that familiar with Amy, but you persuaded me to find out more about her. I looked up several of her songs, some of which I found I was familiar with. She had such a beautiful voice, but it seemed that was always centered on drugs or alcohol. What a shame to have lost such a talent, at such a young age.

Take care - Dave

A most creative piece dedicated
to Amy W. such a talented person
dying so young as many others
of fame have also..so many taken
by drugs etc.. and the list will keep
on growing with more; a sad reality
for sure.

I wasn't familiar with who Amy Winehouse was so I just googled her. Very sad. Reminds me of Janice Joplin. Yes, how ironic that people would toast to her memory when it was alcohol addiction that killed her. This is a very descriptive poem.

You're welcome Chris.
Like E. I am not acquainted with her music ... only the articles written about her struggles and eventual death. Always tragic when someone with tremendous potential passes too soon. Funny though that 27 seems to be an age that has proven deadly to far too many musicians ... Robert Johnson ... Brian Jones
and countless others.
The "what if" game could be played for so many.

A fine description of a chaotic life done too soon.

Well written Chris
