Holed By The Sun

Holed By The Sun

A Poem by Chris Shaw

shafts of blinding brightest rays
break through disintegrating cloud
to gleam upon unsettled surf

bursting through blackened mass
holed with a gift of future promise
dusky sky stirs into spotlight action

angel waterfalls pour forth
liquid molten gold holds sail boats
in a loose embrace for safekeeping

upon choppy waters they dance to
inclement weather's moody tune
so small in a sea of vastness

in the vastness of a huge expanse
threatens ever threatening
searching with a menacing eye

reach out to grasp what's left
light is worth all saving when
darkness invades peaceful living

Hi Chris, another outstanding piece, the light is our hope and our life. I love the way you use the metaphor of the light in this wonderful piece of beautiful poetry. The light can ever penetrate the darkness in our lives, it gives faith, hope and life. I ever reach for the light. Such wonderful poetry, Chris.

Your final stanza sums up our current days, i feel. There has been so much darkness for more than a year that grabbing hold of any slivers of light is required to get us through these troubled times. I sure hope that inclement moody weather breaks soon. The world needs more sunlight for the soul. Pretty as a picture poetry, Chris. 💛

smart and clever turn in closing says i! ... fine imagery ma'am .. your seascapes always inspire me .. but this one has particular power in the ",,liquid molten gold.." and those boats on choppy waters dancing .. really fine use of contrasts too ... especially the "...blackened mass ..." ... boy oh boy what a terror it can be when darkness invades with its fear, anxiety, confusion and doubt ... oh my ... one can be overwhelmed .. overcome even .. but for that one tiny mustard seed of Faith .. the light comes on .. and for those who listen and obey .. grows and dispels the darkness ... I have been reading such inspiring poetry this morning, Chris ... its just about breakfast time for me .. taking this poem with me .. and bidding the Cafe' adieu for another day ... luv on ya! happy to read your stuff always .. your a corker!

So true, so true! Even a slightest ray can illuminate age old darkness, and saving those precious ray of light can show us path when wandering through extreme darkness..... Very beautiful poem

It is pretty obvious you have personally sailed through the high winds and heavy rains of a storm. Your reveal of what the stormy seas were like with the illumination by the light coming through the clouds is wonderful! Quite a capture!

"inclement weather's moody tune"---love that line...

the personification in this makes it so lively in producing theme.

yes, there has been much darkness, but a hole has been poked into it and there are shards of sunlight starting to peek through.
we are reaching out....we have to.

You're so great at writing weather and areas! It makes you come across as a very peaceful poet who pays attention to every detail they see- and those are often the best poets. The littlest things in nature, such as dust floating around a window during the golden hour can sometimes be the most beautiful part of your day. Just peaceful and reminds you why life is worth living. That's how your poetry feels, always reminding readers of the beautiful things Mother Nature has created, such as the blue sky or the pouring rain. Thank you for always sharing your work and helping and inspiring so many people!
