All We Have Become

All We Have Become

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

( dark, yes dark)

"
we reside in threatening times
where spores of hate mutate
to spread wide their evil eye

where song birds choke on smoke
black acrid menacing a mean trail
drifting into oblivion's winding path

rubble piles high in cities bombed
blasted to kingdom come children
half starved oozing weeping skin

rancid breath the reaper sweeps in
for deaths deadliest destruction
those remaining bleeding in pain

the heart of humanity has gone
it settles down with a crying sun
as this global glum world unfurls

discharging its misery for all to see
in the media on tv plastered, our
disaster of all we have become

I think it is easy to forget the light is there. I also think it is easy for humanity to forget that we are all in this together. It starts with self, but in these times, that starting with self must be damned dynamic to shake those sleeping awake to smell the roses, see the sun rise, feel it's shine and remember each moment is a miracle, each experience a blessing. Your words are strong, the times we live in reflect that.

Much much love X

Dear Chris.. you have spoken true words so eloquently… the bottom line I see is more destruction with more inhumanity, more chaos…and certainly we see it plastered all over the media…. It could get worse but let us have hope the peace will ensue before long….

Tragic times Chris for the whole of humanity and nature too.... the small birds are gone from my garden and the feeders swing untouched :(
I truly cannot see a way back without a world wide disaster of some kind , probably nature rebelling as she has in the past and wiping humanity all but out .... we deserve it for all the abuse and neglect we have given to this beautiful world.

I echo your thoughts dear Stella. Thank you so much for sharing them on my page. 🌹
I love the rhymes within this write Chris, we do seem indeed to be living through dark and unsettling times at the moment, humankind seems unable to hide its true nature for more than a few decades at a time, before once again unleashing it’s hatred upon others.
A moving piece Chris.

Yes, what a disaster all this is..And, we feel helpless to really make all this end.
Seems this is the way of the world as nothing really changes.
Seems so unfair..and is so sad.. One wants to shake the world and make it wake up!! To see the loveliness that is there under all the suffering..
Sad but lovely poem dear Chris,

How many times does history have to repeat itself before we learn?? Your poem certainly touches on all the evils that exist in the world. If only this was just words and not reality. You conveyed your message in "All We Have Become."

Sadly, this is what the world has become. Your poem captures and ponders the injustice of the world. I like to think there's more light than darkness, but doesn't seem that way. We just have to hold on and let our light shine.

Greatly penned.

Every time I think humanity might round the corner they disappoint. This will breed hate that will last generations. We are not going to make it. Mankind will never make it out of his childhood this planet is doomed and along with it all of us. Our self chose ignorance will be our undoing along with our greed

A profound and powerful comment on today's terrible times, dear Chris. I relate to each line totally. Life brings enough trials for everyone but man is causing man such abject grief to add to that. We are already so disturbed by this war and yesterday, a 21 year old Indian student but 3 months old in Canada was shot dead for no obvious reason. This is our world now. Your poem is so spot on. We're a disaster.
