Passing Through

Passing Through

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Inspired by a poet who left a response on a poem of mine, telling me he had never been in love. He wasn't young either.

"
how starved are those who pass on by
who hold no favour for romance
who do not crave another's love
reserved, reticent they may be
who do not comprehend that they
have lost life's purpose on the way
they may have travelled here in time
but oh what moments they have missed
a door locked shut a key won't turn
they came they saw they never lived

That is sad and I can’t imagine. I am a loner by nature but not so much I wouldn’t want love. Although now if I was alone again I wouldn’t seek it. I have my soulmate so that’s it if he goes before me. This is an excellent piece

Your status, describing your inspiration for this piece, is just as beautiful and touching as what you wrote! It's so hard to imagine someone living their entire life without ever being in love. Such an evocative voice here, Chris!

Love is a wonderful thing, until your partner snores in bed or farts in bed or hogs the sheets in bed or sleeps through an earthquake but wakes and tuts every time you change position or.. Crap, I think the light from my phone under the covers just woke her up and OWW!
Yeah, I agree. Love is a wondrous thing indeed! 😊

Hi Chris, to be in love is such a wondrous feeling. I may not have a love at this moment but it does my heart good to know I can share love through my simple words, this does make my heart sing with joy. How sad, never to have known love. Love is our greatest gift. Have a wonderful Thursday. Hugs always....Mike.

Hi Chris, you are most welcome. Love is ever the song. Have a wonderful Friday. Hugs always....Mike.
In love, and out of love, two forces have always pulled me in opposite directions - The desire and need to engage, to feel the tingle and happeee and special-sharing of falling in love; and the force to disengage, to not get on that roller coaster again, to maintain an emotionally distant simplicity, to protect myself from hurt, and from the guilt of hurting of another.
The latter force is the lesser, thankfully ...and then it's roller coaster-time again! Thanks for this one, Chris :)

Yes, it is.
Not everyone is lucky enough to find someone to love or be loved..maybe it was not the poets choice to never have loved..? Maybe secretly he yearned to love another but none took a chance on him.? Sad but true that romance is not laid out for everyone in life..i enjoyed this poem very much..got me thinking lol..🤔

Pleased you enjoyed the read Caroline. It got me thinking too. Appreciate you.

The note accompanying this one is interesting. There are those who, for whatever reason, do not connect with others in loving relationships. Though most of us would consider their lives diminished, who can really say? Perhaps their love is directed to other pursuits, which serve as substitutes.

Brilliant writing Chris
Reminds me of an old saying when feeling sorry for myself I'd be told there is always someone worse off
However I'm guessing
As I have been fortunate enough to love another in my time
I'll ever know what it is like to go through life without it
Your inspiration perhaps has never allowed themselves to be vulnerable enough to love another unconditionally
They missed ou on a lot as you stated
Including the pain of break up
Plenty to think about in this short verse
Ta for that
