Passing Through

Passing Through

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Inspired by a poet who left a response on a poem of mine, telling me he had never been in love. He wasn't young either.

"
how starved are those who pass on by
who hold no favour for romance
who do not crave another's love
reserved, reticent they may be
who do not comprehend that they
have lost life's purpose on the way
they may have travelled here in time
but oh what moments they have missed
a door locked shut a key won't turn
they came they saw they never lived

That is sad and I can’t imagine. I am a loner by nature but not so much I wouldn’t want love. Although now if I was alone again I wouldn’t seek it. I have my soulmate so that’s it if he goes before me. This is an excellent piece

Winston, you are spoiling me with your praise and I thank you for it :)
I agree never loved, never lived. Although sometimes we would wish otherwise. This is quite beautiful.

Thank you dear Ken for stopping by to review this older poem out for an airing. I appreciate you.
So well said Chris. Although a loner I cherrish those moments of camaraderie. "They came they saw they never lived" so true.

Some people love their work or their hobbies or their sanity. I've often said there's worse things than being alone and being annoyed by the constant presence of another could be at the top of that list. Some people can't tolerate that. I drive my wife crazy, I'm sure. I get up at three in the morning to tap on my keyboard or play my guitar or make coffee. I lived by myself as a bachelor for 25 years. But on the upside, I can cook, clean house and do laundry and I'm not opposed to doing so. I'm a very good cook too and I wash dishes. I let her sleep late and take care of her when she's sick. She's very talkative and I'm very quiet...unless I'm typing or playing music. I read a lot. She's a TV and gameshow watcher. But I love her like nobody's business. I posted a song on her fb page by Guy Clark and Emmylou Harris, called, "I Don't Love you Much, Do I?" She said...that's so you. I'm understated. ;) She tells me all the time how blessed she is. I hope I'm included in that thought. (smile)

So sad indeed Chris; some people take the wrong path in life, either because it was preset for him/her or they accidentally wandered into it; either way it is a very lonely one ; there is nothing like experiencing love, romance tenderness, secrets, promises....That to me is what life is all about.....
Best, B

Exactly, "they came, they saw, they never lived." Whoever said, "It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved before" knew what they were talking about, just as your wonderful poems does Chris. Those who do not know love or do not seek to know love, are missing one of life's greatest joys. An amazing poem my friend. Totally in awe.

You echo my thoughts Dale. Thank you so much for your visit. All the best.
Love covers so many areas. each with a special magic and more than more. With each there's chance, disappointment and in so many beautiful cases, a relationship that means everything - even the acceptance of each other's flaws! Love truly is what makes the world go around! Plus, its hope and memories are paramount in a life that means more than Self. You've proved it with your thoughts, words and their content, Chis. You inspire.

well said .. read the comment too .. its probably not as rare as i would think .. those who never loved at all ... bring to mind the axiom (in my noodle) "Better to have loved and lost than have never loved at all" ... any pain, scrapes, bruising and bleeding well worth the fall says i ;) great perspective Ms. Chris! .. wish it had occurred to me to write on it ;) ... luv and hugs
