Arrows With Near Misses

Arrows With Near Misses

A Poem by Chris Shaw

what time remembers most
is how the mercury in the wall
thermometer boiled as he breezed in

how the pupils in her eyes dilated
uncontrollably as she melted into
his when he glanced her way

such a give away don't you think
apart from that tell tale pink flush
that slowly crept neck upwards

and while she sizzled inside
fantasising on how they might be
in an intimate cosy setting

vetting his every move, touching
his lips with imaginary finger tips
pausing on blissful lingering kisses

talk about wide open opportunities
reminding her on past ponderings and
arrows with cupid's narrow misses

Hi Chris, sometimes those near misses are something that was meant to be. It always amazes me how the heart does act in these situations. Been there, have the T-shirt. Sometimes we can't just follow those arrows, for whatever reason. Still, these moments do stay in our memory. Maybe the heart knows when things should not be. Chris, you have such poetic grace with words. Have a wonderful Thursday. Hugs always....Mike.

Sounds like the one that got away. "If onlies" are seldom more than speculations, though. Obviously, he was not the one.

been there more than once dear Chris, if You are still young it is easier, but when You are older it's more hard (though sometimes it's the opposite it depends on the situation and the person) a young heart can heal, the wise older heart will need more work to be healed, I think a person who doesn't share You the same feelings it's either they are not awaken yet, or they are not your person and destiny, well there are more to speak in this but let me stop here. You did a truly amazing job here my friend.

Oh, how those near misses become fuel for those emblazoned moments when we find the courage to step out on faith and simply say, "hi." Wonderful piece!

Not that I a cynic, but most men wouldn't recognise an arrow winging its way towards them even if it scored a bullseye!

Still, as Emily Dickinson wrote, 'hope is the thing with feathers,' as is of course Cupid's arrow, so I guess we just ought to keep on hoping for more hits than misses. :))

dear Chris... narrow misses... are like kisses
that linger in our Soul. We are blessed with Arrows that do become embedded and wedded to our most ardent desires... and enable us to settle where flowers bloom. Your poetry always gives our life dignity. tenderly, Pat

Yes I understand this poem dear Chris.

Those missed arrows left us waiting for no-one. I did enjoy these words and thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
