Outings and Airings

Outings and Airings

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(Be kind to old poems)

"
old poems
dormant in archives
gather dust

choked in files
shallow breathing
they wait

with patience
praying for
resurrection

till once again
they resurface
into clean air

gasping
rubbing their eyes
with surprise

to find
black ink printed
on a page

for all to see
in the warm light
of a new day

Hi Christine
I loved this
Today coyote reviewed two of my old poems I forgot I had written
It’s nice to see them come to life again. Just be aired and see the light of day even for a few minutes
Like looking at a. Old photo album faded pages and shining eyes

Stumbling upon old poems is like finding hidden treasures. I revisit mine from time to time

Gathering dust is a great image and image them being dusted off and opened with black ink glowing golden in the sunlight

Same here:) Have a great Tuesday PB.
Liked the resurrection theme in this one. Some of mine have been in the tomb a long time, too, but as I recall them, the stone is probably not going to roll.

Old poem airing once again, and that too creates another new poem.... What a talent! I am not too old in this cafe , and thus when I get to see your old poems from your archive I feel blessed and grateful to you. As without this airing I would have missed the opportunity to read those gems! But I can't say that for my own poems.... As I feel they were childish:)). But your last line is very true in the sense that a poem needs to re read at least one more time afterwards as with new eye we can see another aspect and perspective from that old poem...... This poem is for treasure

When I read the poems of friends again at a later date, there is always something different to say. .. read more
This is some of your best writing, my friend. You've outdone yourself with this clever metaphor delivered with poetic muscle. When I go back to my early poems, I see how free I used to be in expressing myself & it helps remind me to be tolerant of the more uninhibited & unpolished young writers at the cafe! *wink! wink!* Your msg is a reminder to poets hopelessly critical of one's own work! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

"rubbing their eyes with surprise"---
exactly...as Henry Gross sang..."and I've still got the sleep in my eyes"---
poems may do the same, I think.
love this and these and your pen.

It's good. A neat new way, a new angle, to look at one's work.
I've just recycled a load of note books cos I kept on going through them thinking I might've missed something. No such luck.

Yes, It is a good idea to let those old beauties see light again and again, instead of wilting away unforgotten
