Frivolous Fancy

Frivolous Fancy

A Poem by Chris Shaw

fairy lights fraternise with
night's delectable darkness
.
catch me if you can they blink
an eye wink in flirty brightness
.
flickering fast in flaunting moves
echoed in pristine mirror glass
.
to illuminate bottled perfumes
that stand in all sizes and shapes
.
to pursue to exhaustion's end
like fireflies in a far off forest
.
through sleepy eyes mesmerised
visualising what i've never seen
.
tiny insects with an inbuilt gleam
creating a touch of pure heaven

Here in Michigan. No fireflies. My father lived in the Virginia mountains once. The fireflies lit up the night. I loved how you described the view of a miracle. Thank you dear Chris for sharing the outstanding poetry.

I love the term fairy lights, those flickering fireflies that tickle your fancy. They indeed light up the sky in a myriad of wonder. They usually come to me in late summer and they are mesmerizing to watch. They're on and off in a split second and it makes one think about how they light up;, what's in their body that gives us such a heavenly show to watch in summer. Lovely Chris

A very apt summary of fireflies. Creative. Insightful. And you pull tales known to everyone, fairies, to seal the deal. Very nicely written.

Great, I’ll check it out. :)
I've not been in an area with fireflies, except for a couple short stints in life, & you've captured their magic with far more whimsy & fanfare than I thought the little buggers deserve! The perfume bottles is where you really got me, tho! I love light flickering thru colored glass bottles. Your wordplay is off the charts with all my favorite stuff like alliteration going nuts! I love lightning bugs or as you refer to them as fire flies. They are mesmerizing and peaceful to watch; dancing and glowing throughout the night trying to attract a mate.

I love the creative wording and the image of lightning bugs floating within the night.

No lightning bugs in the UK 😔 well maybe one day a visit is in store
Maybe we are like fireflies...we shine our heart's light on and off...darkness, love, darkness, love....
we fly free while others are unable...we could help light their way if we are willing to fly there.
