Frivolous Fancy

Frivolous Fancy

A Poem by Chris Shaw

fairy lights fraternise with
night's delectable darkness
.
catch me if you can they blink
an eye wink in flirty brightness
.
flickering fast in flaunting moves
echoed in pristine mirror glass
.
to illuminate bottled perfumes
that stand in all sizes and shapes
.
to pursue to exhaustion's end
like fireflies in a far off forest
.
through sleepy eyes mesmerised
visualising what i've never seen
.
tiny insects with an inbuilt gleam
creating a touch of pure heaven

Here in Michigan. No fireflies. My father lived in the Virginia mountains once. The fireflies lit up the night. I loved how you described the view of a miracle. Thank you dear Chris for sharing the outstanding poetry.

I have a special memory when my son was 5 and we were driving across country to move to Maine (where we lived for 3 years). We stopped at a tourist place--I think in Michigan--where there were lots of water fountains. As it grew dusk, the fire flies came out and he was chasing them. A very nice subject for a poem.

I too love seeing the fireflies playing across the yard. There is something very magical about these little creatures and about your poem. This is soft and fun and free. I can feel the warm air and see the silhouettes of the trees as twilight arrives and they start their show as I read this. Wonderfully written Chris.

Wow, come to south Texas in the summer, they are everywhere.
Aren't these more wonderful than the Christmas lights...?
God's own little lamps. The miracles in nature never cease.
I love this poem for its beautiful imagery of illumination in dark night, the amazing alliteration and the great message!

You lit up my mind with your fairy lights. Reminding me of those summer nights when we too chased them, trying to catch and put them in our glass jars to later light our bedrooms. Thank you, Margie.

dearest Chris... fireflies are moonlight butterflies that
create a garden path of memories. They were always there
in my childhood to instill Wonder like fallings stars to capture
if only for awhile. Actually, we have a similar "light" that shines
through our heart when night brings us quiet prayers with our Creator.
May peace and understanding always be in your repertoire. gently, Pat
