Solemnity

Solemnity

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(remembering all who have lost their lives through covid)

"
confetti petals
in shades of pale pink
settle on soft green

yesterday's sorrows
a sad parting of ways
feel each one fall

as they cascade
in a fountain of sorrow
souls departed

broken hearted
are many who grieve
silent thoughts in loss

I'm the kind of person who can easily blot out everything ugly going on in the world. But my one nagging thought has been of the covid death toll, day after day. It's a deadly world war grinding on for years & hardly anyone acknowledges this steady attrition is REAL PEOPLE LOSING REAL PEOPLE! That's why I'm very pleased to see you honor the dead with such a heartfelt spray of sensory appreciation (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Here in my state Michigan dear Chris. Not doing too good with the coronavirus. We are doing the worst in the USA. The children don't want to obey the rules.

Thank you Sherri. Pleased to meet you on my page. All good wishes.

Reminded me somewhat of "In Flanders Fields." Though the vaccines now give hope the beast will soon be forced back into his den, there is no way to forget the legions of the fallen. My father lived through the plague of 1918, and I hope to bid this one goodbye while still standing. Sadly, though, there are many who can't say that. And before the thing is done, there will be many more.

...Like those silent teardrops, those petals still fall in mourning. Dear Chris, your amazing poem truly reflects the sadness of this pandemic, the human price it is still demanding. It continues to be a tidal wave that drowns more of us every day and pulls the rest of us into a turbulent sea of fear. It forces us to face our fragile mortality. The sound of grief that emanates from your painful words comes from us all. Praying, always praying...

This is heart warming. I lost a brother in-law. Two weeks time. Just as he started getting better. The night before the hospital was going to release him. He took a turn for the worst. That was midnight and we lost him 11:00am the next day.

A very important message to put out there. Even when this pandemic is over, that's not gonna bring back everyone who's been lost. A very beautiful, but sad poem, yet I'm glad you wrote it. Anytime we acknowledge what's been lost, I think a little bit of peace goes out into the world.
