Division Bells

Division Bells

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(there are always two sides to every story)

"
while confrontation and contempt
make futile bridges that's for sure
cement on stone builds by the day
tall walls are thickened with manure
division screams across the miles
away those smiling faces now
it's blistered hearts and tears that smart
when love is all but torn apart

Hello, Christine! :)
Reading your feelings here, gets me wondering what we can do to solve our problems, and what the root issues are. When I listen to the national news after dinner, everyone seems passionate and argumentative. What really disgusts me are the opinion shows; which air on news channels, but are essentially political propaganda. People rally behind bizarre causes, seemingly always ready to fight for them. Maybe they're all fighting for the same cause, just not communicating it well. Haha

futile bridges for sure Christine .. the contempt part anyway .. sometimes confrontation is unavoidable .. not speaking up may create more harm .. but there is a line and i think your poem addresses those who seek it .. confrontation that is .. they have been in the streets rioting and looting this past year .. building those futile bridges for sure ... i kind of really like L4 ... all that fertilizer nurturing surprising plant life ;) thick wall or no :))))))))

Honest and strong thoughts shared dear Chris. Some walls are built for safety and some walls are built to keep people away. I liked the meaningful and honest thoughts shared. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Hello dear Chris and you are welcome.
As much as I like to say what a sweet soul you are I also know that you are a formidable sweet soul as well:/ I think very little could, would, or should get past you:/ and I for one wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of your frying pan or rapier wit:)

Division of minds is more painful than the brick wall. And when that division occurs publicly then there remains almost no scope of reconciliation. The recent fall out of the Royal family pained me like any other family division... But yes said it rightly, there is always two side of a story and washing the dirty linen in public will do more harm than good. If only people, who sincerely wants something good, stops this kind of division in the bud stage.... Your poem unearthed the underlying pain of it in a beautiful poetic way..

How wise to mention every story's multiple sides. That one thing is routinely overlooked by so many, it seems.
This may be pertinent: "People, I just want to say, can't we all get along? Can't we all get along?" Rodney King, 1992.
