Confessional

Confessional

A Poem by Chris Shaw

i address my dead loves
and some of those living too
i confess my desire
to hold on to you

memories are fine when
you are sound of mind
but then there are occasions when
unremarkably streams a need
to feel you again

bring you closer to me
a comfort feather to suage
all longing

that strong bond of mine
of loving and belonging
to each of you i hold dear

you will find you are buried
for safekeeping between
case bound thumbed  pages

my old sleeping bible
the backbone of me even though
these days we share less
company

there are momentos
dried flowers cards and letters
poems and little treasures for
my soul

to replenish any
split seams of my whole
as time passes by

Me too dear Chris.
"my old sleeping bible
the backbone of me even though
these days we share less
company."
I have a old bible. I keep the keep-sakes I need. I do peek at. To remember the kind people I knew. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Holding on to what we can in this harsh world through memory and kindness is never an easy thing. Poets write to keep our memories and loved ones alive in poetry, but more wonderful I think are those rare souls that find a way to evolve their love into a kindness of caring and concern. It's a rare and noble thing to appreciate the people that change our lives with love though we might find our paths no longer the same. A very touching reminder. Thanks~

This reminds me of things I used to do in the past. The term "dead loves" reminds me of hobbies and passions I used to have. Or the person I used to be. I sometimes feel that longing to do those things once more when the memories just aren't cutting it. This was a beautiful poem with a good flow. Well done.

I just love the fifth stanza...that is a treasure...the entire poems rings of that love we have for family...
their importance to our existence, and what we try to be to and for them...

Time passes by... little birds in the sky are spirits of
loved ones. We shelter the memories in boxes lined
with babies breath and kisses of Grandma's love... and
all those who touched our lives when we were struggling
to understand. Beautifully rendered in Rainbow's Rain.

Gorgeous and touching dear Chris. I felt the immensity of words and their clinging beauty. As humans, we hold on to many treasures, not necessarily material. We hold on to fleeting moments, special events and worthy persons in our lives. We know and feel the loss. We gain insights and learn many lessons.

Memories are the finest treasure to open from a vault to reignite those beautiful flames... Often we lose ourselves in their memory( and memory is always beautiful) and feel that company again. I liked your feather word, yes those are soft and gentle when lost in time... A very sweet writing here as always
