Ad Infinitum

Ad Infinitum

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(a love poem)

"
ours is not the sorrow of a sad
decaying rose whose tomorrows
are lost in stubborn shadow

we are not those tinctured petals
parted from a scented heart that
litters crazy paving on garden paths

we are the last of love's blooms
attached to green sepals capturing
evening's sunlight before it falls

trellised to an old stone wall
we may be past our prime though
you are you and always you are mine

i just read Pryde's poem "Shift to Blue" ..and then here for another lesson in flowers .. i love it .. the tone in this is rich with the aging ... love that old stone wall .. and your poems anthem ... we may have some years behind us but our love is love more solidly built than petals that are first to fade and fall... i find that closing line warm and comforting .. thanks for sharing these places in the hearts and minds of couples who have weathered some storms only to become better .. more selfless .. and enriched ..

dearest Chris... your poem touches my heart as I walk through dreams that break my heart... the pieces can be gathered ... but they are weathered with each passing day. When Spring arrives... I will Rise each day with wilted 🥀 petals... but will rejoice in the day that God has made. Your poetry is embroidered with May flowers and Summer songs... tenderly, Pat

Chris, a delightful poem that just excels. Are we all just secret gardens in relationships that grow and bloom while others over time become neglected with age. Great imagery Chris.

A matured love is the destination that every soul wants to travel. Growing old with the love of our life is the ultimate wish every heart wants. You depicted it so beautifully. Your third verse touched my heart, never talk of a fall... Love always blooms. A very sober, gentle, dignified love poem I have ever read... Kudos to you

Oh my!!! right now and after this I don't want to read anything else! You really outdone yourself here dear Chirs! not only with your masterful expressions and metaphors, but the feelings You've created!! they reach into the deepest and settle there leaving their powerful impact having the control all over us... as I was reading your first two verses I felt a deep wound in my heart, then how You continued and ended your poem creating a kind of bliss from pain was beautifully movingly outstanding, and it seems it's always like this again and again... same cycle. I SO highly applaud You...
