After Dark

After Dark

A Poem by Chris Shaw

forgotten in a chipped clay pot
half hidden by composted leaves
beneath bare branches where in march
magnolias make purple blooms
there where all is darkly drear
where recent snowfall left its mark
a cluster of white bashful bells
in wintry coldness huddle close
a sign of growth a sign of life
galanthus flowers mid the rot
rebirth i hear my heart strings sing
Persephone brings news of spring

Oh yes, joyful news of Spring! Message perfectly delivered Chris - an enjoyable and heartening read. I always think of snowdrops as being the first flowers of spring, but this year has been strange and I already have flowering primroses, crocuses and lungwort - plus some purple flowers around my front door (not sure of name) but no snowdrops yet!

This season more than any other year, I am eager for spring! I hope the coming season reads this poem and is inspired to rush back to us faster than in years prior.

The arrival of spring is always welcomed from me. I am not a lover of the winter cold or snow. I also dislike the lack of color

I know you love Spring. I feel excitement in your words. Any signs of rebirth or new buds are welcome and appreciated. At least you are springing to action all year in poetry.

The tiniest signs of spring are so welcome when the weather is cold and gloomy. I love the mention of Persephone! Spring is just around the corner, Chris. What an uplifting write this is. Lydi**
