This (maybe) can symbolise economical struggle. The moon frowning at us is a good imagery as it seems that the moon can be seen as divine. I also thought about how this could also link to climate change, pollution and other environmental destructions as the moon is made of rocks. There are machines being used which damages a lot of natural beauty of earth and now it results in us realising late what actually caused all these pollution/ climate issues. Great work!

I like the way you described the moon as being "full and fat," seems contrasting compared to earth's citizens struggling to get by. "Watered down new year" is also a perfect way to describe the new year, very somber. Last year I was excited for 2020 and the future to come. Going into 2021, with everything humanity has been through, I am more apprehensive. Thoughtful haiku.

Oh wow this is exactly how I feel also. "Watered down new year." Hopefully this year is a stronger one.. because I like my drinks fairly strong (: I love the moon and how it takes many forms. But at times it does look like a frown depending where you are in the world, and that I find just as beautiful as I do this piece.

This one hits the mark, as far as my jaded attitude goes! I love your first line, with "f" alliteration that harkens to the other "f" word on the tip my tongue, regarding the covid slaughter that this new year has been so far in the USA -- close to 50,000 dead in 2021. I'm afraid we're going to be watered down for a considerable number of months to come! Love your bright sparkly words to express such dour cynicism! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Such a terrible time going on, even the moon frowns, forgoing a smile the earth's citizens so richly deserve after the endless trials and travails. Yet, so low key and somber it all remains even in the New Year. Your words are richly thoughtful as ever, dear Chris. I hope you're very well and staying safe. Take care ❤

We're both writing about the cold. But this poem is more than just cold; it speaks of a sadness and a struggle to be in peace and calm in our world; yes the New Year was watered down because of the chaos around us and the inability to move around freely. Hope 2021 will be much better.

Betty
