What makes this especially intense for me is the title, as it relates to the content. Spirited people are often the ones who take darkness the hardest. Just look at all the artists & musicians that die young. You've captured the essence of haiku/senryu perfectly: (1) expression thru imagery & (2) saying a ton with very few words (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

i'm always intrigued by writes with few words. they contain so much. to live is to have light and vice versa. well said. a spirit of light can be seen from miles away and is a blessing and a joy to be around. this lights my fire on a cold day. glad i came across this one. well done chris ... :)

Perhaps it is the spirit of a loved one come back to light that darkened room that causes the flame to flicker.
Beautiful use of a few words Chris.
Well done.

Be safe.

Many thanks Ted, for that lovely response. Most appreciated. You take care too.

Great haiku. The Earth is the room filled with darkness, your imagination the flame. Your poem is a candle that has given the dark room of earth a little more light.

OMG! this is so brilliant and beautiful. I do envy poets that can pull these off, not something I attempt because well, I suck at it! But this is terrific really terrific.

Yes... we can be high-spirited among the flowers who have nothing to say... but provide our Soul with song. Joyfully, Pat

It is the little poems like this that get me every time.
Since they say so much. The "light"complements the "darkness" and vis-versa. "Spirited" makes me think about, and feel a lot.
Nicely done. =-)

I agree with barleygirl, this is perfectly intense. I see a candle trying to hold its flame to the darkness, the darkness swallowing its light, but the candle fights on because it too only knows light...
