What makes this especially intense for me is the title, as it relates to the content. Spirited people are often the ones who take darkness the hardest. Just look at all the artists & musicians that die young. You've captured the essence of haiku/senryu perfectly: (1) expression thru imagery & (2) saying a ton with very few words (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Good to see more Japanese influenced work on the Site Chris, and it is excellent - nicely metaphoric and as all these short forms should, leaving the reader to fill in the backstory.

A moving piece here. Sometimes, when the darkness is especially pervasive, we are all faltering flames. That is when we must learn to really love the light.

Such a strong message here for all of us Chris, what a wonderful senryu to remind us that there is always light even if it seems to falter in our darkest moments.... it will always flicker in the background until the time is right for it to spread again.

beautiful haiku, a beautiful testimony to the spirited , it brings to mind ying and yang, if we lived on the light side of the moon it would always be daytime, on the dark side always night, both equal in the balance, when there is too much of either unbalance. keep the flame burning.

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
