What makes this especially intense for me is the title, as it relates to the content. Spirited people are often the ones who take darkness the hardest. Just look at all the artists & musicians that die young. You've captured the essence of haiku/senryu perfectly: (1) expression thru imagery & (2) saying a ton with very few words (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Light how could we live without it , even in Victorian Times they found a candle
In birth we come into the light , in Death we are supposed to see a light at the end if a tunnel

It's the nature of light to fight the darkness. The flame is inherently a lover and giver of light and it is up against darkness, such a powerful foe. Kudos Chris! The brevity and beauty with which is you wrote this haiku is just amazing.

Will be so happy to read you always, my friend. You're always welcome. 🙋♀️💕
this one is so good that I can't think of anything to say about it speechless?
everything about it screams - genius.
I bet the sons of Nippon would have to rise early to get anywhere near this.
I've done a few of these and mine (now that i've seen yours) are so juvenile - this is sophistication and the genre exemplified.
I keep looking at it thinking a bit of all this might stick to me - it even sounds poetic - whereas the Nippon stuff sounds clumsy even kamikaze but, I've said it before, we take foreign forms and make them our own. As you have done.

Thank you rew. Pleased you enjoyed this one. All the best.
This gives me chills. Sometimes I feel this is what life is all about. There is so much darkness in life, especially today. But there is hope, there is a flame, fighting for attention and triumph. If we can feed that flame, we can find our light. Very inspirational. :)

I really liked this. It was just a little thing but it had a lot of perceivable meaning. Good job!

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
