Lasting

Lasting

A Poem by Chris Shaw

for friendship is a cherished gift
it lifts, enriches, outlives time
.
when death destroyed your beating heart
it cast a shadow over mine
.
this morning as i sipped on tea
i swear i saw you wave at me

So touching piece this one, I just loved it. Friendship is a precious gift to treasure and cherish. Once a bond is created it remains with us forever. And no word can describe the void that lingers in our hearts when we lose that friend. I am quite touched by this.

All interpretations are valid. The poem belongs to the reader once it is published.

Thank you my friend .
Such a sad yet beautiful post. I can relate because I lost a lifelong friend last year to lung cancer. She never smoked at all. I still miss and cry for her. Thank you for writing my feelings and those of many others I am sure. ~Sharon

So beautiful, it must be such a beautiful feeling to at least have experienced such lasting friendships. Not everyone is as lucky, but I am glad you were.

Oh this is so vivid, it punched me in the gut! I sensed how time heals our grief but somewhere within, the undercurrent of missing them is so alive and a little breeze or anything in the moment brings them back as if they're there right in front of us. Dear Chris, this poem of few words had a very powerful effect on me!

I am also sure you saw that wave
And she wouldn't be waving if she didn't want you knowing she is ok.

I can swear with You too dear Chirs, as I believe like You do... just because they left to the other side it doesn't mean that they don't connect with us, they do in their own spiritual ways, some people are aware of that, others are not. I'm sorry for Your loss, still Your poem evokes warm feelings of love and tranquility.
