Whispers At Dawn

Whispers At Dawn

A Poem by Chris Shaw

gentle rain falls on a mackintosh day
drips sedately, rolls then disappears

drizzle on glazed glass, cleanses
half heartedly plays with a pane

takes a journey in quiet thought
each raindrop caught like a stitch

knitted, soft white wool, fingers
caress rows of purl, plain, purl, plain

high neck sweater taking shape
on long patient alloy needles

a measure of love for one who
died young, passed prematurely

breathe in.....breathe in deep .....
count to ten....and then again ........

memories from the vaults of wish
wish you were here, wish i, wish i could

have one more kiss ................

Water has memory , every raindrop ever felt reminds me of the people there are in my life , how lucky i am to have them , As u said each raindrop is a vault of treasured memories , with each moment , passes water diffuses into the air and falls as raindrops reminding us of the times that have passed , The fresh air , the earthen smell of the dirt becomes the atmosphere of that profound memory , Thanks for this chris , its a touching read

That is so true and I am happy to do that. Kind souls should not be forgotten :)
Every drip and splash brings new calm and focus to a mind living for the most part in the chaotic end of the spectrum, can be blown away and a new thought replaced by another drip measuring another time and place.
Maybe it is my penchant to spend the night/ morn at kitchen window, just reflecting like the glass between us.
Right now I am reflecting on why I have now woke up for my day and its only one fifteen ahem. I am also pondering if coco pops and chocolate milk instead of ordinary milk would be too much for my mind to take at this time 😂

As I read, it felt like the various vivid scenarios came pouring out, a twisted trail of imagery like the zig-zag streambed of a thready river. Love "mackintosh day" -- it implies apple-picking season with all the flavors & scents such an association brings -- the poster child for picking a word that brings along a fulsome palette of ideas. Love how knitting is slowly revealed & imbues your scene with the hint of lonely pursuits that might be used to distract from the late passage of an empty-seeming life, with only idle pursuits & reminiscing (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Grief is the overriding theme here. The gentle rain cleanses the panes only half heartedly, symbolic of the pain of loss that will not be erased. The speaker is knitting a sweater patiently in memory of one departed prematurely, practicing deep breathing as a means of dealing with the grief, but memories of love cut off too soon will not be denied. Only time will close this wound.

Many thanks John for your thoughts. Most appreciated.

The rush of memories inundates and fills one with wishes. Wishes for just one more glance, another touch, hug, kiss. But people go away never to return and with their parting comes the realization of how much we loved them and needed them in our lives. Your gentle poetry often shakes my soul, Ms.Chris! It certainly did in this poem....

Thanks dear friend! I'm sure they must be lovely. I'll check we have them here....
This whole poem is a measure of love to a dear one who has passed; all the visuals speak to this loss...rain drops, a quiet journey, sticks to a pane, even the needles point to love, knitting, a memory caught in time....a sorrow for one who died young; yearning for just one more kiss. There is much feeling in this poem as shown by your vivid descriptions of a slice of life. Sad and lovely. Best, Betty
