Dead Red

A Poem by Chris Shaw

(hope you can see what i see)

each decaying leaf
bleeds glorious rich colour
in death's defiance

The meaning I get from this one is that beauty persists even in the midst of apparent death. Also, we might also see it as illustrating that the last stage of life can be the most beautiful. I tell myself something similar with each new white hair in my beard.

there are lessons in nature for us. we are inextricably linked with it. the leaves die in a blaze of glory, should we not be like them, making the most of what we have. not even death can take away what was lived. this packs quite a powerful punch. beautiful chris. a little different than i'm used to from you ... :)

am reminded of, “Even trees do not die without a groan.” - Thoreau

Autumn? So beautiful yet everything is dying. This came to mind easily because I feel the same way. Like the sun always beautiful when it goes down. Beautiful poem. Tyfs

Collected my treats dear Chris.
Hope this week has been going fine for you...
Love your fulsome scene in so few words. Last line stands out to me as reminiscent of how leaves will hold their color long after falling from the tree . . . also symbolizing the way we still show our colors despite death . . . could be literal death or a walking death (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
