Room With A View

Room With A View

A Poem by Chris Shaw

sunrise stretches a broad canvas
visible through pristine plate glass
doors that slide open on to a top
floor balcony

slate grey brooding sky mountains
form continents with islands
blending with smooth set apricot
splashes

to form perfect cloud harbours
without a single sail boat in sight
of early morning stillness in half
baked autumn light

a flash of thickened mango crush
adds a tincture of deeper hue
in a sky absent of an ounce of
ocean blue

a hint of gun metal shows two
dolphins taking a leap in imaginary
waters, leaping for joy like children
with a favourite toy

while reality puts seagulls in flight
centre stage in my living art,
entering this frame and departing
in fleeting moments

I consider myself extremly blessed that I can see these views from each of my windows. but I couldn't write about them so well. I find this a very moving and musical piece.
PS I realise that this is not Scotland you describe. And I love your descriptions of colour.

This is beautiful. I really enjoyed the imagery of the sunrise. I live in Florida, and we have amazing sunrise's and sets, so I completely understand how it can make someone feel as if they are looking at a landscape painting with how picturesque they are. Great work.

dearest Chris... a touch of the Artist’s brush where colors blend with apricot splashes and a flash of mango crush... the sky will surely surely blush with your gentle touch... Amen... Pat

Well, I was there for a while. Seeing (I saw the dolphins), hearing(The gulls, of course), and I suppose had I inhaled deeply I would have smelled the sea, or sea gull poop. Anyway, I was there, thanks for the invitation.

You are welcome Chris.
Breathless moments and picture perfect captured by a well seeing artist. Those who are in tune, see and feel more. Every little happenstance will hold a special meaning. Living life fully is embracing its essence with love and beauty. Whoa. I love it.

This is another of those moments in nature at which this poet excels. We are given a view of morning on the ocean as viewed from the balcony of a hotel room. It is a grey morning and the clouds over the sea look like great mountains in the sky. One portion of the sky lets in light of a mango hue, which provides some relief from a sky completely lacking in blue. Suddenly two playful dolphins leap up out of the water, routing some unsuspecting seagulls. Sounds like something Mr. Turner would have liked to paint.

The way you captured this panoramic view is magical. I love it. The sky is more beautiful this time of the year. Thank you so much.
