Distracted

Distracted

A Poem by Chris Shaw

dancing dust motes
catch sunlight streaming
moving in time
to morning music
they boogie to
New Order
in their own lively
disorder
lifting spirits
revisiting magic

You wrote so brilliantly on such a basic rhythm of nature, the Brownian Motion.
This haphazard motion is so intrinsic to Nature and all its realms.
Order in disorder indeed, for without the disorder, there would be no evolution, no laws.

Distracted though it may seem, there is such purpose to it!

In such a simple way, you captured all the magic and beauty of creation.

This is just what I love about your poetry so much, dear Chris....

This brought back a memory… My sisters and I were stuck at home, forbade to go outside. Mother was off gadding about as she was wont to do. One of our secret pleasures when she wasn't about was to blast the hard rock radio station to which we danced around the house. We weren't allowed to listen to rock music -- rock music is evil, dontchaknow. Anyway, one day, after we'd worn ourselves out, we were laying on the floor where we dropped. The sun was streaming into the living room and you could see the dust in the beams of light. We noticed was that the music was so loud that the dust was moving in time to that driving beat. It was very cool.

This short poem encapsulates a delightful image of dancing dust motes illuminated by sunlight. The poet skillfully uses vivid imagery to portray the motes as they float and move in harmony with the morning light. The use of alliteration in "dancing dust motes" adds a musical quality to the poem, contributing to the overall sense of love. And that woman who wrote it is so very beautiful.

A cloud of fireflies sounds sad, they are joyful. Thank you Neville.

Nature is a lively disorder.. .and that's okay....always in motion, budding, flowering, drooping, then death...it never stops and always gives us a certain amount of pleasure....lifting our spirits always...I'm sure there is a reason for this disorder....as long as the sun glitters...

New Order! Way to go dusties! Magic indeed. My child is considering getting a turntable and we've been looking around at the available records which if it becomes a shared project would be a bit more than revisiting and kind of like reliving. Thanks Chris. I get distracted from morning chores sometimes and for that coveted sunlight in the winter time! Wow!
