One Starless Night

One Starless Night

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(a second poem posted on moon moods)

"
chariots of heavy cloud,
gun metal greys outnumber
madam moon as she illuminates
the witching hours

hurtling past at speed, a
stampede no less of fast moving
madness casting shadows on her
fine skin

diva is bemused by the race
taking place before her  eyes,
gives out a sigh, says it's time
this usurping stopped

within minutes the wind had
dropped, intermittent spaces
appeared, all activity quietly
disappeared

lunar beauty recovered, no
blemishes or swirling mass to
impair her shimmering face
as she shines bright

queen of light is she, left alone
surrounded by her halo, on an
invisible throne, full ownership
of the heavens restored

She graces all ancient love lores, she adorns all love poetry and lights up every lover's nights. The moon is epic and iconic and so why would she allow her beauty to be tinged by dark shadows?

When the clouds race like that over the moon, the night feels bewitched. It's ages since I saw it happen and your words brought the magic alive in my mind's eye.

The moon is a true diva!

Thank you so much will. I love the moon too and her many moods. I appreciate your response.
I never get tired reading all the ways poets address the moon. I love how you depict her as master of the night skies, as if conducting the rumblings around in the heavens. She deserves a wide-open clear sky in which to shine . . . banish all these distractions! Looking forward to the blue moon coming up soon! The initial crescent should be peeking out in a day or two! Now I want to write a moon poem! But I'll never make it as unique as yours! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This has to be the quentiessential poem of the Heavens
that we view from our earthly domain. I often see the Chariots
and Madam Moon in the witching hours.
There is a reverence in your poem... in awesome
wonder.. I behold. truly, Pat

You create this regal, refulgent aura around the Moon, Ms. Chris. Indeed, she won't let another usurp her numero uno place in the heavens. The reader falls in love with the beauty of your words here.

It was a sheer pleasure to read!
If you asked me, Madam Moon is the uncrowded Empress of the Universe and if challenged she would bin the battle of supremacy with any elements of space, anytime. Her light is unique and I find it more powerful than the sun. Be it the cloud or rain, nothing can obscure her for long. The way you wrote this poetry illustrates this all so well.

It makes me think of gravity, and how the light of the universe is inverted sometimes.... if you want to know where the sun is, you look at how the moon shines and so on.

I really do love how you write, even if I don't really know what you're writing about.

Beautiful use of description dear Chris. I like watching the world change. I use to watch the ocean tide. The ocean teaches us too. New day is a-coming, new hope can be born. I enjoyed your words. Made sleepy mind come alive. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
