This poem is so beautifully relevant in today's times when most have become so material. Asides from chasing accomplishments, we envy others for the stuff they have and forget to count our loved ones as our biggest blessings. Your words always bring us to great realizations, dear Chris. Thanks for sharing such positivity today.

We sadly do live in a materialistic world while many have nothing. Relationships with those we love, all important. Have a good day
True words, dear Miss.. What can you do, everyone is just trying to get by, with their peculiarities.. When we are never satisfied, we keep going far and wide for our purposes, and may just not care to hold those arms longing to reach us, would rather hold the lost treasures instead.. Unless, we learn to acknowledge the valuable treasures which are connections, but then.. It gets too late. All in a quest to strengthen the anchor's hold, harbour safe or not.. In a way, maybe the anchor is the prime treasure in a world of survival and ocean..

firm anchor .. and safe harbor ... pretty rare find in the world .. as nothing in it is made to last ;) if we cling to any of the mentioned "addictions" we are disappointed ... i think the thing we really want is Heaven ... its just we are looking for it in the wrong places .. we can't cling to anything in this corporal world and enter Heaven .. peace and joy my friend!

I think everyone is searching for a little bit of Heaven. Some people find it here on earth, others don't. Hope you are keeping well my friend. All good wishes from this side of the pond.
Finding that person who gives you solace and passion, unconditional love is a once in a lifetime so many cling to things that aren’t relevant but in any case give comfort.
Love the openness of thought out into this poem. Very relatable and the sentiment of need for one thing or another is clearly present,

Chris, this poem speaks to me. It’s a good piece of writing that captures me in a beautiful way. Retired from work for almost three years. I have decided to go back to my roots (Great Falls, Montana) I’m a military brat and have moved around the United States never staying put in one place more than a few years at a time. But the places I have lived where just a few places of which seemed at the time for a youngster to be many moves. Until Sunny Southern California came to light and my home base. Now I’m ready to settle down into a slower pace of life and enjoy the soil of roots of birth. I was only eight when when we moved from Great Falls. Never knowing or feeling the treasures of truly being satisfied. I’m now ready to be anchored in and enjoy that treasure of my roots. This is what your beautiful poem has reminded me of.

It was interesting to hear about your travels and how at long last you have found your harbour in retirement. I wish you much peace and happiness from across the pond. Pleased to find you here on WC.
When we run for material contentment then this pleasure ends as soon as we achieve it. Then another run begins and so on.... But the internal void runs through it thoroughly and in this process we seem to ignore the real essence of life, which is not money, nor recognition nor a stature... But some loving heart around us. And this love and safe abode can give that ultimate anchoring... A very beautiful piece of writing this is..

When your faith is solid and unshakable, nothing else matters knowing everything comes for a reason, not easy yes not easy at all sometimes. and that last verse of yours... many search and go after things which are not genuine, through that they don't see a true grace that is around them, they need to open their minds and hearts and stop following what it is not even made for them. you unexpectedly, wonderfully ended your poem here. Thank You dear Chris 💕

Many thank yous lightsong for sharing your beautiful thoughts. All good wishes
This is a great poem! It truly represents how many people look for some thing and other people look for other things. But gold and objects won’t be with us forever. I think you captured that perfectly, and I love a poem that rhymes so well.

This poem describes varied attitudes towards people's inclinations as they advance in life. Some find complacency and contentment in whatever they have, while others always yearn to make it big in life. People value different things but the poet tells us that perhaps, connections and someone's love is what can keep your happy: You won't feel you're lacking something like the people searching for gold nor you'll feel you have settled for something since people are so complex you'll be busy trying to study them, discovering new things in that same person.
Thanks for sharing this poem :)

Just Amaze! It flowed like a song and with all the rhymes and lines.
The poem just read perfect and is a delight to read. Loved it!
Connections - the title is a apt one, there's nothing as valuable as relationships in this world. It's irreplaceable, invaluable, can't be bought, can't be traded and has to be always gained and earned through love, mutual trust, respect and care.
Thank you Chris for writing and sharing this beautiful piece of write!

Abhilash , another very thoughtful review. Thank you for the encouragement.
Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
