Concealing What's Real

Concealing What's Real

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(the way it is, stop reading the media)

"
their function perfectly
understandable in the military
to protect and save lives
yet wherever you glance
nowadays there is a blanket
of lies being pedalled in the
name of truth

whether political or personal
smokescreens are everywhere
they come in all shapes, all sizes
a little white fib or maybe a ton
of other half baked mountainous
disguises of deceit

swirling billowing some resembling
ghostly misty veils, others like
London smog, foggy and dense
some invisible to the naked eye
what they really are is a whopper
of a porky pie stewing

deliberately set up to confuse
to obstruct the truth to
massage effectively what's going
on underneath our noses
to hide the facts to cover up dirty
rat tricks in government or beyond

i don't know about you but i enjoy
my air pure and that's hard to do
nigh on impossible to breathe
ask yourself a question, what is true
how will we ever know who we can
gift with our trust

I appreciate the message of this poem absolutely! I love my air clean too and nowadays, to log on to the news is to pollute one's mind and spoil one's morning. They're nothing but pedallers, sensationalists and conmen selling distorted versions of truth and commercializing it all. A powerfully written poem!

You are most welcome Ms. Chris. :)
I can sure relate to this one! With an often secretive government and with the heaviness of Russia on my doorstep I have grown accustomed to not believing everything I read or hear. Its almost second nature now. The rise of social media and electronic news has just hidden the truths further. Fake news is everywhere. I like the straightforward speaking in this writing. Not exactly a poetic poem, not quite a rant, but somewhere in between. Its a compelling flow of thoughts and concerns. We all need to be wary.

I love what you are saying in this Chris the truth is for me its not just the misinformation and shell games that are happening these days and you can blame the new (Meme mentality) for this too but a thing you and I were taught and had once grown to believe was a common place thing is no longer truly taught anymore... CRITICAL THINKING! they (the spin doctors) take one trigger issue use it to there advantage and package it with there intentions and poof everyone believes it no matter how ludicrous as long as that trigger issue is addressed they will believe it. I have been observing this here in the states for some time and it is hitting a crescendo lately:(

I had written a super long rant about Putin and his KGB and the fake news, election tampering. Cyber war strategies... it got a bit ridiculous :)
So I'll just say nice poem. I've always lived by the rule, trust no one.
So far so good. Kinda lonely though. :) but you navigate the best you can.

This work addresses a phenomenon that is very old, but which has been pumped up to heroic proportions by the internet. The plague of misinformation we see now includes conspiracy theories, trolling, cancelling, slander and libel. It includes not only ordinary individuals, but also some of the most powerful people on earth. I really don't know when or if we will ever get back to the point where we can trust anyone in power.
