She Walks Through The Veils

She Walks Through The Veils

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

A lyric for lovers of folk music

"
there's no need for shivers
there's no need for fear
her visit is friendly
she loves you my dear

when she crosses the centuries
to break through the veil
she does so with loving
though the telling seems stale

there's something about you
your spirit your face
that lends to her calling
though she leaves with no trace

her silence misleading
her aloofness not meant
for she died for her darling
and her death was well spent

so when you next see her
just ask for her name
so the spirits can guide you
and you'll know why she came

acknowledge you know her
and away she will go
though her memory will linger
yet her presence won't show

Definitely it flows like a song dear Chirs. a fairy? this is the first thing that comes to my mind, though she can be a muse, an ancient loving soul. Could it be even a truth or a revelation. Who cares when the result is sweet and gently loving as this :> there is a tender allure through your lines as we read.

"there's something about you

love these lines 💗

Some good spirits touch those who they like, fleetingly and they can brush our thoughts or dreams. More often than not, they leave us with some kind of realization, a revelation, if we are insightful or perceptive enough. One has to be receptive to these good ghosts.

Thank you for your review. Pleased to meet you on my page.

Well, I immediately went to Barbara Allen though it makes no sense and every sense when you're heart is hooked into that old folk song and when you've heard every version from Baez to Blackmore's Night and still she doesn't make it on time...a very sentimental song for me so I'll leave it at that and thank you for taking me there this morning. Of course, then I saw the sweet Annabel Lee crossing that kingdom by the sea and decided my day was tossed so I am gathering the clothes and heading out for wine..If that was your aim you did quite well..lol. I will ask her name should I see her in route..Thank you, Chris!

Oh, folk music! Must get my eyes tested.
Have an image of trying to give directions to a lost soul, wandering confused and unable to find the door marked exit.
But then I thought of a wider muse, as in not a writing muse,
But why would she visit when I'm not the darlin she misses? Hmm, I'll go for lost soul Chris, final answer 😀

Yes, it's a lost soul who needs to be redirected, so she gets peace. Thank you Lorry.

This seems to me to be some kind of spirit, who appears as human and can be a bit intimidating to some, but who really has good intentions...some how she is attracted to this person and is told to acknowledge her and she will retreat. This flows so well; your choice of words is excellent, perfect for this very ethereal poem. You take care too, be safe, Betty

This is beautiful Chris. Feels like an otherworldly presence and yet not at all eerie.

I saw this as the muse...the memory lingers, the presence will no longer show..when she is gone she is gone.
this reminded me of a Joan Baez song..."Long Black Veil"--

She walks these hills in a long black veil,
Visits my grave when the night winds wail,
Nobody knows, nobody sees,
Nobody knows, but me.

Love that song Jacob. Thank you so much.

I'm not sure if this is the green lady or a passing muse:? Not that it matters the rhythm and rhyme in this is lovely and I really like the melody flow:) I love folk tales especially when written as poetic songs there is something so old world about them. Christine the Bard!
