Blue Eyes, Blue Eggs, Lost Love

Blue Eyes, Blue Eggs, Lost Love

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(Diamonds and Rust) Joan Baez, Bob Dylan romance

"
joannie struck a chord
sang the saddest of songs
of a revisiting ghost
when the moon was full

she sang about bobbie
in soulful soprano voice
diamonds and rust, lost love
a haunting of sorts

she sang that his blue eyes
were bluer than robins eggs
i remember those eyes
knew it to be true

and though i had never seen
a robin's egg, one was hidden
for sure in a nest in the ivy
outside our back door

for the robin  diligently
entered with juicy grubs
when it was safe to do so
when no one was looking

until one morning i found
on the unforgiving ground
a fledgling, pathetic
cold in its half made vest

i watched the distress
of the returning bird
heard its anguish
saw it take off for good

my thoughts caught joannie
was she pushed from the nest
or did she fly away
of her own accord

soulful, heartwarming and sad... your words flow like a song dear Chris, I don't know details about Joan and Dylan but from your poem I feel as they did love each others but couldn't always stay together, more like loving the state of their love rather than loving each others closely.

Your corn was so lovely that I had to go to YouTube to listen to the song. It's a beautiful song, brought a tear to my eye, (not that that's hard to do). You captured the mood of the song with completely different material, an amazing job! The morose joy of love and love lost will inspire poets for eternity.

Beautiful words to let in all the memories of those days in the sun when we use to have such fun, Loved Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. They always sang about life in poetry form ;-] Love your poem.

Though I'm not familiar with the romance you've mentioned here, this poem stands on its own in its exquisite expression of loss and pathos. What makes it so unique is the way you connect Joannie's haunting sadness and the Robin's anguish at her loss. Heartbreak so beautifully conveyed, dear Chris. Another poem that will stay on in your readers' hearts.

You're welcome my dear friend....I loved it!
LOL I was pushed from the nest:) packaged and purchased with a no return policy:/ those poor suckers my parents:) Mr. Dylan is in my opinion the most poetic lyric writer that ever existed and Mrs Baez was no slouch either:) she helped him so much early in his career and the duets they did are true gems but hearts like there's never stay static and the motions of the muses must of parted but i think they will always love each other i don't think that ever stopped:)
