I have a feeling we are all trapped in a constricted tunnel, these days. The incessant noise of the twenty-first century, pandemics, politics, wars in diverse places, global warming, the absence of true art, unhealthy oceans, the overload of plastics everywhere. We thought it was bad when we were hippies and called everything artificial "plastic" and dreamed of returning to nature and the Earth. We never followed through, more's the pity. Ironic isn't it that we now drown in our own refuse? and there is little hope that the light at the end of the tunnel is a flashlight with weak batteries. Yes, I'd say you are very much in tune.

I certainly see the world in a different light to the way I did twenty years ago and for sure there are far more stuck in that dark tunnel looking for a way out than I can remember. All the best to you.
It’s all rather dim in the outside world, it’s lost its vibrancy and politeness. When people see light in the tunnel dreamers see hope, realists on the other hand see a train coming.
A haunting write of relationships
"in the quietest moments
when silence of sound is heard
at its loudest your spirit
brushes mine most"
So identifiable it is in this quiet that we feel the presence or loss of others and our emotions serve as our eyes. A lovely write Chris

Wow, love the imagery, the black vinyl on the sixties turntable, and the ending, so hard to find those quiet moments when we can be present with someone.

lovely poem chris. my fav image is that of the repeating turntable. how the spoilation of a great record was always akin to the sadness of losing a great friend to dementia. Now, no more turntables.

That tunnel, one way but is it? The direction is our choice, we can chose to move forward, embracing what we find or hide in the darkness of a past that I assume the person in the poem is running from. Nicely done Chris

Such a shame it can only be one way.
Vinyl music was tactile .. you held it in your hands and it left a memory on the turntable...

I like the quiet moments. A long walk or a chess game. Beautiful dance of words and thoughts my dear friend.

funny. iv made many a strange observation in my life, privy to my very uncommon upbringing, and iv always said that its.only.when you truly hear the silience that you arent where your supposed to be.. potentially in danger... when i say silence i mean when the backround noises that would saddle the hearing senses are confuddled and alarmed at the piercong sound of nothing. indicates usually a place with a lack of love for your presence as i believe fear is absence of love...but often just misunderstanding.. OR something is about to happen.. always of a naferious orientation, always, in my experience anyway.

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
