It Don't Matter To Me

It Don't Matter To Me

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Don'tcha just love Bread

"
it happens so infrequently
some would have me believe
that tinnitus had paid me a visit

that intermittent ringing
in my ear that fades almost
as soon as it starts

travelling from a distance
light years away maybe
yet makes me feel connected

that makes me feel joined
to something i do not have the
power to understand

my Dad with his love of physics
superior knowledge of sound waves
always said to me

if there was a way
he would do anything he could
to send me a signal

so when i hear that high pitched
vibration i smile and say
Dad's tuning in to my frequency

it doesn't occur to me it's all
in my head, call me mad, bad
or completely sad

It don't matter to me

What a beautiful poem. Its sentiment is so genuine. Your sharply defined images, tinnitus, space, our place in the universe, a daughter still joined with her father...like my Making Conversation, this poem is a living remembrance, a memory that celebrates without drifting into the melancholy.
Perfect way to begin my day

But talk to a writer of the muse and we wax lyrical of our guardian angel caressing our ears and whispering her delights to us.
Maybe I'm not the best person to answer, as I hear radio four when I switch on my kettle (seriously, and no, I don't wear a hearing aid)
Call it mellowing with age, but I'm more inclined to believe anything these days, ever since trump became president 😀

ahahahaha well .... Dorothy ... you aren't in Kansas anymore .. but I love your take on tinnitus .. for me it never goes away .. so whoever it is on my frequency never shuts up :)))))))))))))))))))))))) for me it is part of Meniere's Syndrome and for over 30 yrs has had a very slow progression .. but when it first started occurring .. i very much attributed it to something outside me nog ... most of the time i can ignore it as one does with nagging wives :))))))))))))))))) but i absolutely love your sentiment .. would never try to tell you anything otherwise ... its beautiful .. i am stealing the attitude for me self .. but for me it is a whole crowd of aunts uncles cousins friends and me parents for sure ..love this my friend thanks so much for sharing ... as a theme for poems it is, i am sure, one of a kind .. well done!

Can so relate to this Christine. Mum said that she's come visit as a Robin so every time I see one, as daft as it is, I automatically assume it to be her :)

Hope you are well Christine

I get that too. What a perfect way of looking at it. I'd like to believe it's a signal of some sort too. Even though I know it's not. Sweet write, Chris

That's a very speci al kind of madness, Chris. Your dad's made you smile.. made you feel special, never mind paltry reality . Your words are set so clearl y. You create very speci al poetry - and every time.

Thank you Em. At times it is better to dream and smile than to face the separation of reality.

Yes, how very true, too true at times, Chris.
I like you and your dad's take on tinnitus.
Can translate what he's saying: "I've always loved you, child; always will."
Touching write, Chrissy.

Whether tinnitus or not, whatever can bring back those connections with those special persons now departed is a blessing

Chris, this is how we stay connected to our loved ones. I love the attitude in this poem. My wife's father used to keep dimes (10 cent coins). Since he died (2005), she finds dimes constantly in random places in our house or in the community, often near her car. She's convinced he's leaving them for her, if only to say, "hey, remember me." It's up to the person to believe, not any others. This could be a sad poem, but you make us smile, especially at the end.
