Men From Manchester

Men From Manchester

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

This should have shown up as six stanzas of three lines. Software on WC churned it out like a scarf :))

"
i found myself content
in a Maltese summer memory
raising my glass to old friends
sipping bacardi on the rocks
floppy sunhat protectively shading
my fair freckled skin
sunbeds white, gleaming bright
playful splashing of polished toes
in cool waters of a pool
those men from Manchester
heading our way, at the ready
with their chat up lines
confident behind their dark glasses
i heard my inner voice say
steady girls steady
what a day that turned out to be
round the clock laughter, till i cried
till the sunset died on us

You've got a very clear memory, or you use this precise images, that even I could see through you eyes, I could feel myself in the same skin.
The images got out in layers, that made me hesitant, as at beginning I wasn't ready to find myself in a pool, or even wearing a hat. Can't tell whole story at a glance.
And then everything stops. That's the problem with every good thing. And what remains are the memories.
It was a good read.

Wow... what an interlude of a destination tha just
happened to be waiting for flowers that dance and romance...
happy to chat and fold the day in a blanket of sundown with
soft orange and lavender memories to dream about. tenderly

A pleasant memory of a time past here. Liked especially the part about the "men from Manchester" and the very British sounding term "chatup lines." In my American youth, they were called "pickup lines" and included such imaginative specimens as "Do you come here often?" or "What's your zodiac sign?" I mean, those lines could have come directly from Keats and Shelley.

Ah, days at the beach with friends....ready to meet a guy and ready to have fun. I could almost feel my toes in the sand as I read your words. Great imagery, Chris. Lydi**

some european holiday fun, i'm guessing after finishing your school, or the end of a year college studies with a bunch of your learning friends. i never did that, too busy spending all my money on flying lessons.
it's a nice poetic read about people's youthful exploits.

btw i had similar spacing problems once with my long flying poem with the paragraphs disappearing into one long read. so i overcame it by putting a colon at the beginning of the space line.
hope this helps.

I wonder how one can be so calm if some hunks (if they are) come up to you for a chitchat. if the talk goes great, then no one wants a great day to end. I really love how beautifully you describe all these memories.

Youth grants a natural zest for life.
Thankfully, all of us can readily recall some happy days.
(By the way, Chris, you sound kind of hot.)
A lovely and smart portrayal!
