the alliteration matches the sound of the hooves as they beat a song to the cemetery.
This reminds me of Dickinson...
"Because I could not stop for death, he kindly stopped for me, the carriage held but just ourselves and immortality...."
nicely done.

I saw this wonderful horse and carriage, I couldn't help myself :)) I have no plans to travel in it myself :)) I was thinking though, there's style for you. Yes, going out in style. I choose the light too. Every time. Hope you are well my friend across the pond. A big thank you for paying me a visit.
Much of death's ritual is quite proper, rather formal--unfortunately, culminating in encased worm food.
Let us invest in the immortal human soul; one's physical body does not, at all, fare well.
Strong senryu!
Your senryu says it all, Chris. Its a depressing last ride at the end of the line. I would prefer a horse drawn carriage to a hearse anyday, though. Not that I will notice the difference. Finely articulated.

A final Journey on this earth with the
soft gallop of horses taking me to a place
where Angels weep and flowers grow...
Beautiful in the silouette of grace and beauty...
Evermore. gently, Pat

A senryu that takes me deep into that dark, solemn, final journey. I feel a reverence for the hearse. It marks a fine finale to a life on earth and the beginning of another journey, one we will possibly never understand. Appreciated!

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
