My daughter doesn't have a grandmother or a grandfather. They were all long gone before she arrived. But I can see how this would be trying to those not able to hug their grandchildren. I can't hug mine either but they are over two thousand miles away. We only get to chat on the phone now and then. At least after this situation is resolved, hopefully, we'll all still have each other.

Two of them live with me and the other two are only a couple of miles away. The youngest member of our family was the one offering kisses through the window pane. I can tell you, that was precious. The smudges are still there.
Hi Chris,
Many people today do not understand the construct of the Haiku. The 5-7-5 meter and no capital letters. They also miss the point concerning the conciseness, nature, emotional storytelling and power of the haiku. You seem to have mastered the ancient and modern elements. Very moving piece. Crystal clear in fact. Earl

It really makes you appreciate some of the things we took for granted. Hope your health is improving and you and yours are managing in the current climate.
dearest Chris... yes, we do see our children and grands through
a window of time when we are waiting for this virus to disappear.
At first I envisioned the fingerprints and kiss smudges to be
from the past when they had left them inside your home...
like painted pictures on your refrigerator... and then I realized
the sequestered times we endure. An adorable Haiku blessed with hope.
truly, Pat

This was how I saw my youngest grandson recently. His mum held him up to our window. Yes we saw him through glass. How sad not to have given that adorable child a cuddle and a kiss. Pat, your new avatar, also of a young child. It is beautiful. Is this one of your grandchildren? All good wishes from across the pond.

Bob was three years old and I was thirty three. I enjoyed my first child like a flower bulb I had planted in the Autumn and it burst forth in the Spring. Now my son has two young girls age five and seven... his wife was a bit younger when he finally married in his forties. I have a daughter also who has a son almost 17 and a daughter almost 13. I am blessed, but somewhat sequestered. We are surviving across the Pond. The wild geese fly above it all... why can’t we do the same. with love, Pat

Take care my friend.
Such a beautiful but sad, sad, sad reminder, Chris.
A friend found whose daughter is in Australia with her daddy, searched until she found N's home.made Christmas card cos she knew the little girl had touched it as she made it. Dear God, how painful the like of your and my other friend's heart tremors.

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
