Pipe Dreams

Pipe Dreams

A Poem by Chris Shaw

breaks a new dawn
after a restless night

a splash of pink sunrise
soon colours my eyes

those blackbirds a singing
are hidden from sight

my thoughts are of childhood
i search through the skies

dear brother your silence
still shatters this heart

i'm sure you are out there
so ask that you please

whisper your presence
take hold of my hand

for a moment of comfort
come softly to me

hi christine
"a splash of pink sunrise
soon colours my eyes"_______ i love those 2 lines particularly. think i'll to have to learn somehow, to be more ethereally descriptive in my poems.

you must've very close to your brother, so your personalities or likes, i assume would be similar. how lucky is that!
my sister & i are like chalk & cheese in personalities. can't say that i really think about my childhood much, coming from a dysfunctional family.

This is very moving Chris and I'm sure the simplicity suits the sad theme. Loss is something that is an integral part of our human experience and we must try to cherish memories and not let them drag us down. I know in some cases this can be very hard.
I hope you are keeping positive! We are lucky having this release as a kind of therapy.
Take care.
Alan

Thank you Alan. Poetry is good therapy for those sad moments. They don't last that long thankfully. .. read more
First interpretation i got is that of the figure of God. When we need him and seek for his help especially in these days.We need him to hold our hand and say everything is going to be ok.

Second one is ,that of something i do a lot. Me waking up seeing the sunrise and seeing how the world is full of miracles starting just by the sunrise of the sun. Then later on during the sunset. Which is a beautiful thing in my opinion.
But also during these two times thinking of that one person who crosses your mind.
It might be sad or not, it might bring you happy memories but still you say to yourself what a wonderful life. I lived well and you keep those memories close to you and your heart is filled with excitement on what'ts going to happen next.

I love your poems, cause you write just what i feel or think in so many ways.

Beautifully melancholy. Spending a sunrise by oneself can be taxing when the silence grows louder than the sound of the world waking up, but it's important to remember all the mornings that they were spent alongside your loved ones, even if those times have naturally passed. In some way, the pink skies and the black birds never left, and so in a sense, neither did your brother. He's still watching the sunrises with you, but is more a of a part of the sunrise than he is a part of the crowd. I always like to imagine that my loved ones paint memories and experiences even brighter for me as time goes on and my heart still longs to see them. Their presence comes in many forms and colors, and so even when you are lonely, they'll never let you feel truly alone.

Gorgeous imagery, Christine! Keep up the great work!

I don't quite know what to say about this one except I can relate to it. Everyone manages grief in different ways. I've never been afforded much time to grieve for anyone I have lost. Maybe it was for the best that I had no time to grieve.

I greatly enjoy this poem. I was going to write more, something a bit longer about the why, but instead I think you simply knowing I enjoy it is enough.

Chris - I can't help but to feel your grief over the lose of your brother. Though I wasn't really close to either of my siblings, I felt badly about their passing.
