Pipe Dreams

Pipe Dreams

A Poem by Chris Shaw

breaks a new dawn
after a restless night

a splash of pink sunrise
soon colours my eyes

those blackbirds a singing
are hidden from sight

my thoughts are of childhood
i search through the skies

dear brother your silence
still shatters this heart

i'm sure you are out there
so ask that you please

whisper your presence
take hold of my hand

for a moment of comfort
come softly to me

hi christine
"a splash of pink sunrise
soon colours my eyes"_______ i love those 2 lines particularly. think i'll to have to learn somehow, to be more ethereally descriptive in my poems.

you must've very close to your brother, so your personalities or likes, i assume would be similar. how lucky is that!
my sister & i are like chalk & cheese in personalities. can't say that i really think about my childhood much, coming from a dysfunctional family.

I just have to respond to this in my Bunny Robert way... for your poem makes me feel of this poem I wrote a while back as if I read this before writing mine dear dear dear Chris!

__Listen For The Whisper__

Though my motion will cease to stir
And voice no longer heard
Long past movements entreat to spur
Breathes billow to my words

And please listen for the whispers
Those times you fell or ached
Recall my soothes oh so tender
And feel my warm embrace

Please don’t grieve my loss lost passage
My grave resides in you
The progeny of my passion
Those whispers sing for you

I, unfortunately, also know the pain of losing a brother... This really resonates with me, and your strength is admirable. Poignant and well executed!

Thank you, and it is... You take care as well.
A golden rule is to talk about the writer's skills, that his/her emotions are delicately added. Throughout the time of the etceteras, one should focus on the poet.

I've tried, dear goodness, I've tried.. but ... i so understand the longing.. even though in another way, for a different reason. Beautiful writing.. as is the pink dawn when that hint of colour says more than some would think.

I understand this poem. My world is too quiet. I need voices and grandchildren in the house. I hope this will end soon. (It won't.) I hope you are doing well dear Chris. Be careful and be safe dear friend.

They're not hidden Chris, just socially distancing and observing the correct lockdown procedures. They will betempted to break it if you throw them a crustor two though, it's getting harder for them to earn a crust since all those humans disappeared.
Even without the current situation, the quiet wakening of dawn can cause pause and reflection, but there is an added uneasiness and solemnity to things with what's going on. We are but human, and when one thing is missing from our lives, it can lead to reflecting on all else that is missing too. I do believe the thought remebering him keeps more than the memory alive. For all we can know and think, choosing those thoughts shows what and who truly matters.
Beautifully penned, and we had a similar dawn this morning. I think the technical term is a blacmange sky 😷

oh Christine ... so magically soft and elegant ... the grieving offset by the "..splash of pink sunrise" ... birds are singing ... but hidden :(
our first thoughts on waking, to me, are important ones ... many times mine come from dreaming ..remembered in part usually ... asking for meaning of some kind ...
"i'm sure you are out there" ... turns this poem from a concrete, real experience to something more ... as my own thoughts on a dream never quite finds understanding ... i turn to thoughts of my God... as your poem searches for an affirmation .. assurance and comfort ... these things i do find in those moments ... your title .... is filled with doubt and a bit of cynicism to me .. much in contrast to your poem .. a curious thing dahlink! i wish you well as you remember your brother .. and i am sorry you carry such loss .... i think when siblings pass over .. it strikes much closer to home than say a parent ... wishing you well as we begin to emerge from our cocoons ... i am not afraid .. i think it is time ;)
