Pipe Dreams

Pipe Dreams

A Poem by Chris Shaw

breaks a new dawn
after a restless night

a splash of pink sunrise
soon colours my eyes

those blackbirds a singing
are hidden from sight

my thoughts are of childhood
i search through the skies

dear brother your silence
still shatters this heart

i'm sure you are out there
so ask that you please

whisper your presence
take hold of my hand

for a moment of comfort
come softly to me

hi christine
"a splash of pink sunrise
soon colours my eyes"_______ i love those 2 lines particularly. think i'll to have to learn somehow, to be more ethereally descriptive in my poems.

you must've very close to your brother, so your personalities or likes, i assume would be similar. how lucky is that!
my sister & i are like chalk & cheese in personalities. can't say that i really think about my childhood much, coming from a dysfunctional family.

I swear as I read these words for the first time, some soul walked over my grave .. now read several times and it seems some soul is having a field day .. this is so good Chris on so many levels .. very sad of course because I can feel the loss that inspired it .. but yes, on so very many levels, it is write up there ..

When someone dear departs, it seems impossible to endure the pain. But the memories of the same person, occurring time and again are most agonizing.
A very sad yet beautiful poem.

Beautiful. Then the memories, most of our cherished memories are of childhood, aren't they? I can relate. The loneliness you feel is rightly conveyed. Hope you are well.

A very poignant write, dear Chris. Your title is quite revealing and it says so much in itself. The longing is palpable here and the restlessness of disturbed sleep and the need to reach out to one since passed is very delicately conveyed. Being in my youth i am yet to bear witness to many passings, but i know such days will come and I just hope i am well prepared for their arrival. With this poem you have worn your heart and longing on your sleeve and its both sad and beautiful in its brevity here. Such a touching write, dear Chris. I enjoyed it very much. :)))

This was so poignant and expressed with such grace. I understand the longing, living alone in my apartment right now with only work to keep me busy during the isolation. We all need poetry to comfort us in these difficult times, thank you for sharing!♡

dear Chris... to be separated is such a loss. I was an only child; however, being separated from my son when he was out of high school and left the East Coast to explore the West coast ... left me at a terrible loss... although he visits and now has two young daughters. There is a chance they will live with us until they are settled on the East Coast. I do understand the feeling of Loss. truly, Pat

Awe such a wonderfully expressed piece, could feel your words inside my soul in yearnings of childhood. So funny that we couldn't wait to grow up. Why I just don't know. Love your words. ;-}
