A Poem by Chris Shaw

a petal pink moon
in empathy
draws closer

her softness
a beacon of light
on the longest of nights

for those who mourn
whose souls are brimful
of dark sadness

a promise
that your sun will rise
with each new day

for surely as dawn
puts to bed the sleepy
starlit heavens

rays of warm healing
will be yours
as time passes

Your lovely poem imparts a whisper of much-needed hope in these hard times Chris. So many of us now facing "the longest of nights"... My younger brother is just now recovering from Coronavirus, thank God. He has been battling it for two months now. It has been two months of these dark nights shared. He is in NY and I'm in Florida...an agony of nights passed. This virus is a fierce beast. But, as you beautifully describe, the sun rises anew with "healing rays" each day and the "petal pink moon" bathes us with empathy. Beautiful thoughts. Beautiful poem. Thank you.

Nice use of the natural cycles as a metaphor for human fortunes. It can stay dark only so long; the sun will indeed rise again.

It takes times, healing is a process, it may take longer, and given the pain, years are just a passing though we go through. And believe is one of that key.. Well said and written.

Time doesn't always heal all wounds and even the skin of a scar is taut and tender; disfigured from survival. How nice there are poems that offer hope like this one.

This poem is so soft and flowing...the images are clear and telling. I love the last line which brings hope to the mourner..." rays of warm healing will be yours as time passes" . Really love this one!
