A Poem by Chris Shaw

a petal pink moon
in empathy
draws closer

her softness
a beacon of light
on the longest of nights

for those who mourn
whose souls are brimful
of dark sadness

a promise
that your sun will rise
with each new day

for surely as dawn
puts to bed the sleepy
starlit heavens

rays of warm healing
will be yours
as time passes

Your lovely poem imparts a whisper of much-needed hope in these hard times Chris. So many of us now facing "the longest of nights"... My younger brother is just now recovering from Coronavirus, thank God. He has been battling it for two months now. It has been two months of these dark nights shared. He is in NY and I'm in Florida...an agony of nights passed. This virus is a fierce beast. But, as you beautifully describe, the sun rises anew with "healing rays" each day and the "petal pink moon" bathes us with empathy. Beautiful thoughts. Beautiful poem. Thank you.

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness. And above all HOPE is contagious. The moment someone writes,
"rays of warm healing
will be yours
as time passes",
we read it and then begin to 'Believe' and have trust and absorb the hope of the writer. We understand that there are others who have the same hope, and that is how it spreads.

Faith in anything can be a savior, as long as the thing we have faith in has the potential to bring about healing and guide us toward better thoughts. I love how your title implores us to have faith and then the poem itself shows how the beauty and cycles of nature can impart that faith.

We don’t even have to think about the sunrise or moonrise. These things happen independent of us and we how no reason to doubt their continuance. It’s as simple as a child’s belief that his mother and father will always be there when he wakes.

The softness of your petal pink moon makes faith seem easy and intuitive, and as the poem unfolds it becomes more and more so. What a lovely way to guide our troubled minds toward higher thoughts just now, Chris. I really appreciate the beauty and peaceful nature of this. It’s the very thing I needed to read tonight. Thank you for sharing this poem.
