Escape

Escape

A Poem by Chris Shaw

do not fret
as darkness comes
catch the cool air
beneath a barn owl's
wings

rising in flight
from a bare branch
bewitched by moonshine
in a forest of
silvered slow motion

an apparition
of white wonder
gliding against the backdrop
of an ink black sky
pitted with sequins

carry me with you
night bird

Only under the cover of night is this type of escape possible. The possibility of everything grows in the dark, good or bad, the escape requires the cover before the light of day shrinks it to man size bits made out or our agreed upon realities. Great writing Chris!

What a lovely image .
There are so many wonderful things in this world , i do wish people would stop thinking about themselves and consider the abundance of other life all around them , because when we have burned all our bridges the night owl will still be rising in flight....

There is great beauty, here--and a desire for greater freedom.
Human beings dearly love both.

An appropriate time to be wanting to escape, dear Chris, and what better way than on the wings of an owl under the cover of darkness. I guess we all would like to take that night journey and fly far away from our troubles. Some lovely description here in this one, with a touch of the mystical merging with the reality. Much enjoyed! :))

Well done Chris. It's good to read a poem that has a gentle mellowness to it, rather than all the hysterical hype we are being inundated with.
A pitch black night...warm...soft breeze...and then being ghosted by an owl sliding overhead...the suddenness is startling.

A good write.

If only my night time slumber were an escape such as this! Love your graceful imagery & peaceful sensations. This is exactly what I crave every night when I lie down, but instead I mostly toss & turn, moaning in pain. A poem like this takes me to where I no longer can go spontaneously & I thank you for taking me away! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I might think we would all like to escape at this very moment...
and just be owls sneaking around in the night, free from this virus...
wiser than the presidents, congressmen...humans in general.
i escaped somewhere with this piece.
i love the beat of the short lines, and the alliteration thrown in for good measure.
Wisdom in this allegorical poem.
