maybe it's just as well we don't know when that moment will arrive .. at least most of us don't .. here though, you have not only reminded us of our own mortality, indeed of all things both animate and inanimate, but you have most importantly captured the very essence of life's fragility .. the fleeting and transitory nature of it ............ having got that off my chest, I must also say it's an honour to be #75 on your impressive list of reviewers .. an amazing achievement and most worthy .. Neville

how elegant this is, the truth of all is that, it is true, irregardless of the suffering , Helios would always shines. Oftentimes, I have many loses for the past 2 years. But I gather what's left & continue to replant the seed. It may not be something that is easy to do because I must consider where to plant it again, the soil, the weather etc. This, felt - immensely --

A very meaningful poem Chris, on the one hand very delicate and then BOOM, the last two stanzas so powerful; We all meet our fate in different ways and you have caught it so perfectly. And....life goes on; the butterfly, the deciduous tree with a waving leaf, etc. Well done!!!

Thank you for visiting Betty, your thoughts very welcome. Take care.
Yes life is fragile just like a butterfly 🦋 you have conveyed this very well in your very beautiful and descriptive poem Chris though others thunder through life taking unnecessary risks that would make some shudder. Thankfully the river still flows on ! Chris this is beautiful

You’re most welcome Chris, it’s my pleasure to read your writings. Kind regards Katrina. x
Just one mighty blow and it sure can change the flow of history - those fragile leaves could have hung on longer had they not endured the sledge hammer. This pandemic is just another mighty blow - very thoughtful poem as this is sadly our current reality Chris

We live in scary times Carolynn. Thank you for your words, and take care.
No matter what we do...no matter how many tears are shed...no matter the weather...Life goes on. Much as this madness that is gripping the world at the moment...we seem to have forgotten that people die...there is no getting around it...whether it is an elderly person succumbing to a virus or a young person stabbed in the street...the outcome is the same.
That may seem rather blunt, but it is reality.
Beautiful poem Chris.

Life goes on. The first line hits me as the cruel glare of the sun hit me when I opened my eyes the morn after a loved one was cremated. It felt ridiculous why the world didn’t stop. You have so effectively shown here how powerful and sweeping life is and how we as hapless leaves have little control on our destinies. Though some may try to leave their imprints on the sand, it’s still never lasting enough. Time erases all. Fantastic work!

You have a wonderful talent for writing about the most complex topics with such clarity and grace. The imagery is beautiful throughout. It is hard to imagine that one day we will detach from our tree and fall, perhaps with no warning.
So fleeting we are and so insignificant when you think about how many of us come and go... yet, capable of wonderful things in this short time we are here.
Such a lovely and thought provoking poem.

This has hope written all over it, at the same time it higlights the fragility of the human life. Stunning imagery, and packed with a punch with the final line.

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
