A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Back to classical

"
Farewell to winter's gloomy days
for spring brings lighter hours
and bulbs that slept beneath cold earth
burst forth in comely flowers.
Up from the dark our snowdrops creep
their white bells coyly ringing
while daffodils in frilly frocks
sway to the blackbirds singing.
Away the freeze, come soon some warmth
my bones I feel them aching
and like my garden I too search
for sun to soothe my waking.

My internet freaked as I previously "reviewed," so I messaged you my brutally honest thoughts. Here is the public version that also is important:

Awesome theme, well written. Like me, you have a "way with words" that speaks deeply and sure. Nice pacing also. My internal reader sped and slowed, rose and fell, feeling warmth and chill. I am seated in your garden - I witness the struggle between the early blooms and the frost that tries to hide them.

A beautiful poem dear Chris. I look forward to the days of Spring. I already prepared the yard. Too early to plant seeds in Michigan. Winter can hang around till the middle of April. Thank you for sharing the beautiful poetry for the birth of Spring.

Always a pleasure to read your work and you are welcome Chris.
Oh how I love the daffodils - you have created a warming visual for me that I so long for. Where I am we are still a couple month away from seeing such warming signs of spring. Oh how I wish I lived in a warmer climate :)

Good one Chris. Winter wasn't its usual angry self this year...only two large snowfalls and with two weeks to go to Spring, it may come early this year. Soon be in the garden cleaning everything up. Noticed the tulips are peeking up from the pots.

All I can say is
'Spring has sprung, the grass has riz
I wonder where the birdies is."

Around here we look for the red-winged blackbirds to signify spring.

Lovely rhyme and rhythm here, dear Chris! Very reminiscent of classical poetry in style and content. Sometimes i fail to understand the harsh light in which Winter is portrayed; I like both of the colder seasons just as much as the warmer. Regardless, your words here paint a lovely picture of the passing of the Winter and the joy that shall arrive with the coming of Spring. Lovely work, here. Much enjoyed!:))

Watching Blackbirds building new homes with twigs and straw
Our snowdrops like snow - so thick they are now
I'll put a coat on and collect the broken daffs. all fallen down
Hope your warm weather comes soon

How beautifully you've welcomed Spring, Chris - deserves only the best - and perhaps, the classical is the best - rather than the loose and often raw modern.

Being always a child of the sun, growing up in a sun-kissed land, I so understand the need for sun. The way you wrote of the spring and all the warmth and beauty it brings with it and how you wait for it’s magic to begin its work is so beautiful in itself.
