A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Back to classical

"
Farewell to winter's gloomy days
for spring brings lighter hours
and bulbs that slept beneath cold earth
burst forth in comely flowers.
Up from the dark our snowdrops creep
their white bells coyly ringing
while daffodils in frilly frocks
sway to the blackbirds singing.
Away the freeze, come soon some warmth
my bones I feel them aching
and like my garden I too search
for sun to soothe my waking.

My internet freaked as I previously "reviewed," so I messaged you my brutally honest thoughts. Here is the public version that also is important:

Awesome theme, well written. Like me, you have a "way with words" that speaks deeply and sure. Nice pacing also. My internal reader sped and slowed, rose and fell, feeling warmth and chill. I am seated in your garden - I witness the struggle between the early blooms and the frost that tries to hide them.

Chris - this is delightful! Today is the first day of Spring and I relish it. The crocuses springing up the daffodils swaying in the afternoon breeze. Perhaps best of all, the robins singing away.

Take care my friend - Dave

A classical form and flow that sings like a coming spring, Chris. As I read this poem, I hear birds in the flower box at my window. The gray lingers but the birds tell me green and all the colors of flowers will soon arrive. Thanks for keeping the hope alive in this poem. We love the classics and spring.

This is everything about where I'm at these days! I made it thru the drudge of winter & now I'm sitting on the cusp of spring, watching every new explosion of new growth abound! One cannot check too often to watch each bud burst out a little more, day by day. Just this morning I ordered some tomato, pepper, cucumber, & melon seedlings becuz I'm too impatient to wait for these damn seeds to grow! (I have some nice broccoli in a sunny window, tho!) Sorry for my rambling . . . you need to post a warning, this poem may incite muddy puttering (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Another beautiful offering from you, in a classical form that I so happen to love. I love just love the colours you give spring and there is just so much to love in this poem by way of daffodils in frilly frocks, blackbirds singing and sleeping bulbs bursting. Your treasure house of lovely words is always overflowing and I maintain that you are the most awesome nature poet here. This kitty would love to prance around in that divine garden of yours, my most gifted friend.
